Hi Everybody,
I've got a 64 1/2 Mustang with the original 170 ci engine and original Holley 1 barrel carb. I started getting a very bad hesitation and the car would not start when it was cold. I thought it was flooding, so I rebuilt the carb. This didn't take care of my problem, so when it didn't start the next morning (I did get it started when I first put the carb on and adjusted everything), I tried pouring a little gas down the carb and it started right up. It idles really smooth now (alot better than before I rebuilt the carb), but it still hesitates so bad that it is not drivable (it does get a little better when the engine is warmed up, but still has no power). It seems to be starving for fuel, but I went ahead and checked my spark plugs and timing and the plugs are good and the timing is right on at 12 btdc. I also changed the distributer cap, rotor, and plug wires. I have a Pertronix ignitor, so there are no points or condenser. I also changed the air and fuel filters and checked the fuel pump. At this point, I wonder if the carb is shot. It seems to be in good shape and I checked for vacuum leaks by spraying carb cleaner all around and on the carb. I also checked the vacuum advance and it seems to be working properly.
I would appreciate any help anybody can give me.
Thanks,
Mark
