I am running a Carter YF. Here is what has been happening lately. With cold starts I push pedal to the floor then let up halfway and it starts right away on the first try. When it is hot it will usually not start on the first try and it will burp out a puff of exhaust out the carb. After I try a few more tries it will start, but sometimes I need to floor it or others I give it half pedal or no pedal at all. My timing is correct (I do use a light) and I have been told it may be timing related. I replaced the metal fuel line between the pump and carb with a rubber line to reduce the chances of vapor lock but it has made no difference.
I am thinking of replacing the timing chain and gears but will it help? Also checked all vaccum lines and all looks good. Any help or suggestions would be a big help!
