Stripped fuel inlet on carburetor... *sigh*

Sooooooo I went to pull the fitting out of my carburetor today when I was fiddling with an old one. I had a new carb, that had some great parts that I needed. I got the Autolite 1100's Hesitation and flat spot eliminated, it idles great and everything, but I had to hold the fuel inlet INSIDE of the thing with my hand, or it would spill everywhere. Anyways... how can I get the right holes back in there so I can tighten that fitting back in? Thanks for the help guys.

'right holes' Do you mean threads? Does yours have a little adaptor fitting or does the filter thread straight into the top of the carb? Either way get soemthing with new threads on it and carefully confirm that it is the threads in the carb that are bad and not the filter. If it is the carb your only shot at saving it may be to try something like JB weld but be carefull not to get it inside or get the next size up (maybe even metric since they fall between SAE sizes sometimes) nipple and a drill and tap and re thread the thing. I dont remember if that is a pipe thread or standard. Im guessing standard since it has a gasket. If it was a pipe thread you could try cutting a bit off the end of the adaptor or filter to make it go deeper into the carb but you would have to clean up the threads to make sure you didnt get them any worse.

The good part is the tops of the 1100 all look the same. Its the bottoms that change depending on auto or manual trans and auto manual choke. Back to the salvage yard. If you are totally screwed let me know I MAY have a parted out carb that still has a good top around here somewhere.

I have a top of a different 1100, but there is one difference between the two that I have: One is manual choke, and one is automatic choke. The manual choke is for a manual car, and the automatic is for my automatic, soooo, they're hardly interchangeable. I like your JB weld idea. I thinkkkk that there might have been some in there before, and that the threads were already stripped. I'll be real careful, let it sit for a few days, and let you all know what happens! =)

Strange, I have 2 auto-autos and I bought a manual manual because it had a metal vent rod on the top and the tops were identical. The manual choke stuff is all on the base and the rod connects to the same spot. I wonder if yours was alterd and not a factory manual choke?

I suppose there is just the slightest chance that some time in the last 40 years someone has alterd yours or my carb(s)?

Good Luck!

Well on thee manual manual, the manual is from a much later year, and has a bigger boree etc. Might be an 1101? Or something? Either way, thee tops will interchangee, but I will have no choke. I will see what I can do about it, as I'd likee to havee a manual choke. That wold bee cool. =)

If you can get ahold of a choke body, several places sell manual choke adapter kits. Both of mine I got at NAPA, but I've seen them at Autozone & I think that Holley sells them as well.
