Stroking a 200

Has anyone stroked a US 200 by using the crank from an Aussie 221? Does anyone have any details on how to go about this? Thanks.

No you would be the first to stroke a 200 small ford six, my understanding of it is that it can't be done! So why not just get a Aussie 221 it would be no more problem that getting an Aussie 250 2v head and intake imported to the US market!

Yep, the
144-170- 200 is 7.808" tall,
the 188/221 is 8.425", and
the 250 9.469" from crank centreline to top of block.

The pan rail was about 9.625" wide on the 144-200,
about 9.75" on the Aussie and Argentine 188-221
about 10" on the Aussie 250,
and 11" on the US 250

The cam centreline postion in the block is rasied past the stock 144-170-200 on the 188-221, and 250 cube engines.

Ford was able to easily 'jiggle' the critical dimensions at the Canadian, Austrailan and Argentine factories with a mimium of fuss.

If you want to do a 200 stroker, you'll need to

1.cut down the blocks pan rail and notch the cylinder skirts to fit the 221 crank and whatever rod you use

2.either cut into or reduce the base circle diameter of the cam so the rods don't hit,

3.the rods will need a trim-up so they don't hit the pan rail,

4.and then you'll end up with a worse rod ratio.

The US 250 is bomb proof engine which begs inclusion in a 200 powered machine. Its got all the durablilty mods included with it. Try one instead!

Thanks gentlemen. I was hoping to get a few more cubes in a compact package so the 188/221 and 250 are out of the question. Looks like a 200 with crossflow head.

The 221 is still an option. It's physically very similar to the seven-main 200s and most would not pick it. Ford gave the weights as 391 pounds wet, and 372 dry. Not sure what counted as "engine"; I think oil filter, alternator and fan were fitted, but no extra pump gear. The 250 is a lot bigger and heavier. At over 6000 RPM living the rod ratio might be an issue (you would then choose a 170 crank like a TC 188), but for street use it'll do just fine.

The cost of building a 221 will be the same as the cost of building any of the sixes plus the extra cost of purchase. And you could still attempt a crossflow head.

Regards, Adam.
