I left work tonight and started the car only to hear terrible rattling. I stopped and started the car a number of times and eventually the starter just spun without engaging. My guess is the Bendexâ„¢ (I think that's the term) sheered off and the pieces are being tossed around by the flex plate.
I'm now sitting here waiting for AAA to arrive.

UGH!

oooh the fun !! hope the ring is ok n its just a starter n time to find all the pices , hope they all go out thrue insp plate

actually no.i had the same thing happen to me and the bendex pieces jammed up between the starter and flywheel.i tryed to bumpstart it with no luck.i thought the engine had siezed.i guess the made in china starters have inferior starter bendexes.

bumpstart? do you mean push start? cause that's what i was talking about

Well, i got it home and pushed it into the garage. I'll get after it Saturday.

I believe my starter has a lifetime warranty from Autozone so hopefully this won't cost me anything other than time. I'm hoping the pieces can be removed through the C4 inspection plate without too much difficulty.

And I'm still having overheating problems. The crazy thing is, the car runs absolutely awesome. At 80 mph, it still has a lot of acceleration if I punch the peddle. I''m going to remove the stat, maybe it's not opening all the way, who knows?

I had an Autozone starter do that to me recently and destroy my ring gear in the process. Duralast my a**. Brand new starter the previous owner had just put in. I'll never buy a thing from Autozone.

Autozone made good on the starter and all is well again. I'm so thankful it wasn't a tranny issue. I removed the stat to help with overheating, but have yet to take it on a long run to test. Not an ideal "fix", but in SoCal, it one I can live with.

Don't remove the thermostat Anthony!!!

Put a 160* in it and see if it cools down. Letting the water cool earlier might mask the overheating symptom of another problem until you find out what that problem is. =)

I agree a 160° makes sense, but in the mean time, I just removed the stat altogether. ...and it did nothing to help.

On the freeway it runs hot, never actually overheats, but runs high on the gauge. When I cruise through city streets, the fan keeps it at a good temp. I'm really starting to think it's the pump, although it's new and not just a rebuild either.
If it were a clogged radiator, it would over heat on city streets too so all that's left is the pump.

Thoughts?
