on ebay i found an elec. supercharger that pumps out 240 cfm. for 45.00 usd + 15.00 s+h. it supposedly gives about 20 hp how does this sound for a quick bolt on?

tis is the whole report on it: sorry its so long! does it sound allright for a 250 cause its meant for a four banger, but it sounds like it draws a certain amount of air plus the air u already are taking in, id just have to rig it right!:

Most of these devices are pure garbage. They flow some specified CFM against 0 PSIG head. Increase the back pressure to 6 PSIG and the flow drops to approx 0 CFM. If it doesn't have a drive motor on the odrer of 10-20 HP it simply doesn't have enough power to work as a supercharger.
Also there's the minor issue of power supply. 10 HP is 7.46 kW. At 12 VDC, that's 621 amps at 100% efficiency. How big an alternator you got???
Spend your money elsewhere.

ok thanks guys I'll try to avoid picking up bs like this it sounded pretty good for a bolt on but yea i suppose a used turbo will cost just a bit more in the long run and really be worth it, as long as i dont screw up my engine, but theres deffinitely lots of info already on the forem and if need be the answer is only a question away. this forum is awsome.
I just had to run the numbers. A 250 at 5500 RPM and 80% VE requires 318 CFM. Less flow than that and you're robbing, not boosting power. Use a 6 PSI boost (1.4 pressure ratio), and you only get an airflow increase of approx. 125% (density ratio is less than pressure ratio due to compressor inefficiency) or about 398 CFM
I dragged out my copy of Mark's Handbook and looked up compressor HP. 6 PSI and 400 CFM requires about 14.25 HP so 10-20 HP was a pretty fair estimate. That 15 HP motor would draw about 932 amps @ 100% efficiency.
Actually, you could do an electric supercharger if you wanted to, but not like that one. You'd need to find a 15 HP, 3500 RPM, 12VDC motor (assuming one exists or could be custom wound) some big storage batteries, a second alternator and charging circuit tasked only with keeping them topped off and a relay that activated the blower motor only at WOT on the TPS. For the blower you could use an appropriately sized Paxton/Vortech/Powerdyne centrfugal. I estimate that (if you could find a home for that monster motor) the entire mess would only add 200 additional lbs and cost about 3 times as much as mounting the exact same blower with a gilmer belt drive. :roll:

These blowers offered on EBAY and other Auction sites are usually SCAMS! Several of the blowers auctioned. The sellers usually have a low Feedback number due to the fact that they wil change their name after a few have sold.
I have recognized these as a MARINE BILGE BLOWER, the only use is to expell the fumes from the lower bilge. These are made of plastic and usually wear out in 2-3 months of continous use. I work at a marina and can tell you this IS a scam.....DONT BUY 'em! And besides... My cost for these blowers are $9.00. Check out this page:
