i just did cut out the upper and lower arm ,[ how do you like my design ? got any tips ore advise ? ] now to wait for the tie rods and then bolting it onto the car for fitting , as you can see i did make 2 types upper arm , 1 for coilover and 1 for ther orginal spring !
al out of aluminium 20 M/.M type : 6082 "
verry leight !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! gone mild the upper arm for the right angel for the ball joints [ shelby drop ] and the part that is comming bolting onto the schocktower with the 2 holes, is from stainles steel 20 M/M . the setup wil be adjustible and al with the right angel for a shelby drop ! the strut is also almost ready , just some little milling ,and drilling and i,m ready to test fit !

i wil keep posting the progres and making pic , if gotten any tips ore maybe i forgetten some thing , just let me now ,

When you get the finished product and price, let me know...I've VERY interested since I was going to do TCP this winter anyways.

Any idea what coil-overs would work for the set up?

Slade

first test fit and see how things work out , but i see np . making multiple setups would be easy because i cut them out in almost 1 piece , so just load the prog and cut them out !
for using coilover schocks : i wil making mutiple adapter brackets for the under arm for seting up the coil over with using differends types of schocks ! maybe anybody got a good adres for me for to buy the coilover shocks , so i could make standaard brackets , i,m using right now spax coilovers fully adjustible with pressure in and out and coil setting !!!!
LinkPhoto

but the arms wil also work with the standaard coil , your choice when buying a setup !
price : i dont now yet , did cut them ,must weld a little , mild the upper arm to the right angel ,tie rods ,strut ends ,bal joints , .......................
just give me a little time, im just into it making the setup , so hard to tell the price now , but you al now , i,m not ripping anyone for his money , just getting my parts , materiaal and time payd ! so this wil gone be a verry cheap setup !!! btw : tie rod,s : also needing a good adres for it to buy , metric M12 tie rods!!!!!

btw : coil over for rearaxle ?????????????????????? yes !!!!!!!!!!! i,m planning to make this setup for the rear axle , a bolt on kit , not welding to the axle ore to the frame rails ! but first my front suspension !

You are just amazing...I'll be interested in your rear when you get to that too.

I'll look for some standard shock places, but maybe something like bilstiens, koni to name a few. Do you have a compressed length they should be? is it the same length as the regular mustang shocks?

Slade

8) when you mill the upper arms for the ball joints, mill it so the pivot point is 15 degrees down from level. that way the ball joint wont be in a near bind condition. that is what global west does with their arms.

wel ..... that is a little problem ,would be handy to use a standaard coilover , so easy for me to make the brackets in the right lengte !
but i also can make costum brackets for the coilover for your choice , if i get the right compressed lengte !
LinkPhoto

here are some dtails from standaard and coilover lengte ! i could make a setup for using only the coil for the orginal shock,s , so a coilover with using the standaard schock ????????????? how is that sounding ?? i now you can buy only the coils for a coilover setup , i could make some nice parts for the coil , with tread on it , for adjusting the wright hight and pressure ?maybe a new idee to figgure out , would be verry cheap , only buying a coil over set and the little parts i ,m making for it !!!????? normaly a good set [1 pair ] wil cost here about 500€ !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

btw : thx for the tip RBOHM !!

Harrie, looks nice, but aluminum? Are you sure it will be strong enough for this type of application? My vote is chrome moly :D

Al

8) depending on the alloy selected, it should be fine. the lower arm has very little stress on it to begin with as the upper takes the spring and shock loading. also consider the upper arms are just stamped steel from the factory, so if the thickness is sufficient then the arms will be at least as strong as the factory arms.

AL , i could make a special set for you , cutting out of titaan !!!! hahaahahahah , realy , i see np with the alu 6082 , i did made some upper arms for some guy,s who are using the arms for ofroad cross !
never any problems with it , they told me there are 3x better then the stock arms ! the normal stamped arm is 3 M/M steel 37! these arms are 20 M/M thick !!!!!!!!!!!!!! alu 6082 ! imagen a tube arm ,the same as the TCP setup is only 2 M/M wall thichknes !!
it think i did oversize it , then i did make then to smal . the enginering on my work give me the advise to make them out of 10 M/M , that wil do , he sayd !!
these will last for life time , i now for sure ,

the tie rods i used here are from my struttower setup M10tread[ only for testfitting ] , these wil be replaced with M12 with polyurethane insert ,now i,m needing my baljoint to fit the rest , did orderd them , but stil not here almost 1 month ago now ,

Just a question. Looking at your last pic, why don't you make a upper control arm mount that incorporates the shelby drop, so you wouldn't have to drill new holes? Is that a bad idea?

Just pondering why no one has done that.

See Ya,
Mike

That's really nice. Do the bearings on the upper arm allow for camber and caster adjustment?

I imagine you will be making spherical bearing strut rods next, right? sign me up for a set of those; mine are kind of rusty and scary...

not a bad idee lavron , i will make next week a prototype , see how it works out ore fit . and yes the suspension wil be fully adjustible, even the strut, someone got more tips ? seems to me a good idee for that shelby drop, why did i not figure that out ? nice to have people with differends thoughts , i can use that , im thinking to much lately for making new parst  ahhahhaaha

How would you incorporate that?
And why?

Most of us already have two sets of holes

jimbo i dont no how , but i wil give it a try , who nows , better to make something and find out it is not working , then do nothing !!!!!
making a new draw andcutting the piece is np for me , so i wil give it a try , maybe its working fine , and for the future for someone without the shelby hole,s a good option !

I think it will either add an addition bend (which would be bad) or keep the arm from moving up and down freely. Give it a try, but I don't see that it will work as good as just cutting two more holes.

What are you using for the bushing on the upper arm?
are you using rod ends to attach it to the arm? If so I would get the heaviest you can find...

Would you be able to attach either the V8 or I6 spindles? it would be great if you could use either one!

By the way, IT LOOKS GREAT!!
You are making some nice progress... and having some fun too!

J.

jimbo , im using the same rod ends as the orginal TCP setup .

Would you be able to attach either the V8 or I6 spindles?????
what is the difference ? maybe stupid question but imagen i got a 66 mustang and can not go to the fellow next door to see what he is gotten in his 67 mustang V8 !!! i cant compare parts , i can only make what i got a see , so al of the parts are mostely for a 66 model ! i only see one,s a year other mustangs on the internationale meeting , other whise almost none !! got a couple of friends now who are having mustangs , but there are not near ,

btw : hopefully i,m getting my baljoints this week ,got al of the other parts almost ready , only missing the bal joints for a realy test fit with the disk brake,s and the new wheels on it with the coil over shocks !!![/u][/i]
