Swap a 170 CID for a 200 CID 6I

Which parts can I use off the 170 when I swap it out for a 200? Then I know which parts I have to start looking for. Thanks

Most, if not all the internals should be different. Crank is different (bearing#, stroke), pistons are thinner, I think the rods are shorter (but I could be wrong), dizzy tends to be smaller (I think later years match the 200), which means I think the oil pump is different. Carb will be smaller on the 170, better off with the 200 carb.

Cam is the same, i think the accessory brackets are different? and potentially the bell bousing?

On a break (I'm in training on colorado springs) I'll peek at my ford six performance guide and see if there's info there. Yes, I take my guide everywhere I go so I can reference it since I have a terrible memory.

Thanks and any additional guides are appreciated. Can I use my, intake and exhaust manifold, starter, distributor, fuel pump, water pump, therm cover? Valve cover and oil pan I believe are interchangable. How about the head?

8) about the only parts from the 170 you cant use are things like pistons, and crankshafts. the connecting rods are all the same size 144-200. if your distributor uses a 5/16 oil pump drive shaft then you can use it in the 200. the cylinder heads all interchange, though you have to deal with chamber volume and port and log sizes. valve covers, oil pans, camshafts, lifters, timing covers, flywheels/flexplates, vibration dampners, pulleys, accessory brackets, all interchange.

intake (head) yes bolt on, but you'l get ALOT more performance from the 200 head the later the better
exhaust manifold, yes bolt on, although the 200 will most likely be bigger
starter, if sticking with same tranny you should be good
distributor, depends what year, IIRC in 64-65 they changed to the larger 5/16 like rbohm suggested
fuel pump, should be good to go, but I would still replace it with new
water pump, I don't see why not, but I would still replace it with new
rocker arms, yes bolt on

good luck!
