Alright I have a lifte rthat is making noise, what can I do about it besides replacing it? I guess I should tell you that I have a 1965 200 with an unknown number of miles on it. When I first start the car there is a lot of lifter noise until the oil pressure builds (maybe 1-2 seconds) then it quiets out except for one lifter. Any input is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!!

HI
A couple of things an exhaust gasket will make a sound like a lifter and I'd pull the valve cover some of the 200 came with adjustable rockers. Use a screw driver and put the handle to your ear and place the other end along the valve cover and see if you can hear where the noise is comming form.

Risloneâ„¢ used to be a popular oil additive to 'free' sticky lifters.

A old boy taught me in the 60's to add a ½ quart of kerosene to my engine and then run it for a few miles before changing the oil and filter.

I've been doing that to my engines for 30+ years and I feel that I have saved much money from buying kerosene instead of any additives.

I would try that before replacing the lifter.

What weight of oil are you using in your engine?

I guess the kerosene is OK but rember you can't get all the mixture out. there well be a mixture of oil/kerosene left in the lifters, laying in the pockets of the head, block & stuck to other stuff.. I have heard of using Auto-tranny fluid as well..
Also if you use some kind of cleanner like that and the motor hasn't been keept clean (inside) you could open up a can of worms like noise lifters, lose rocker arms, leaky gaskets as the gunk is whats holding it together.

Yeah I am kind of afraid to use a cleaner, as I can already see oil seeping in a few places and I know the world of hurt I could be in if I am not careful. I will try the screwdriver trick this weekend and maybe if I am luck get some time to remove the valvecover to see what is going on in there.
