The best straight six?

That's what I meant. Picked up 6x6 from another thread around here. I can't say I like the C6 better than the Torqeflite in my old Dodge van. It's similar, but kinda mushy on the 2 -3 shift.
Never had a beemer so I'm sticking with the Nash/Hydramatic. Guess I should be running a 258/700R4 combo in something.

Xctasy, I just read the article & I am not even gonna pretend that I understood everything. But, I gotta ask a stupid Question: The article said that gasoline as more energy potential than nitro-methane & made a comparison of a pound of air will burn an ounze of gasoline but the same pound of air will burn over a half a pound of nitro. It also said they were running 55 psi of boost. My question is (and I'm not sure if I'm asking it right) how much air would you need to make the same amount of power with gas as opposed to nitro & do we have anyway of delivering that realisticly? AND YAH! I'd like to see it in a SIX!

I don't know, Pinky, but you are thinking what I'm thinking!

Since the stock last of the line turboed Ozzy 4.0 engine block is only making about 1800 hp before it explodes, I guess we've got some work to do to catch up with a, ahem, Chevy based four.

I'd say I'd revise my best six to include any 4.0 six from 1993 to present do would be my favorite, and best ever six. The combo? EFI, 4.0 and any gearbox it came with.

I love John Ottley's reworked 4.0, Triple Weber DCOE 45 and T5 special...single ohc. viewtopic.php?f=3&t=69165

ford fg falcon fpv f6 4L turbo 6 with zf 6 speed auto 415hp and 416ftlb's stock in a rear wheel drive family sedan dont think you can really go past it
the xf is unbreakable to to 800hp std from reports engine is a tune away from 500+hp
oh and it can trace its roots all they way back to a 144/177ci ford 6 from the early 60's
Hearing ya! Anyone who's been for a drive in a F6 Typhoon would have to agree. In saying that, I'm loving Smitty's point of view, all too complicated for this backyard mechanic. That's where bias and brand loyalty comes in for me, 250 2v for an early falcon/mustang, 265 hemi for a charger and something like Ottley's 4.0 for anything in between, (how good is that BTW!)

You can have whatever slushbox you want with any of the above, I personally haven't owned anything without 3 pedals!

there is to much mucking around to get the later 4.0’s into older Falcons, my friends XW Falcon wagon has a barra turbo with 680 at the treads, but it is one hell of a tight fit, he saved some pennies by buying a XR6 Turbo complete that had the motor and T400 auto, then swapped it all out into the wagon, and went back to stock XR6 specs on the daily driver. However Aussie Speed are doing carb conversions for the AU 4.0’s, only prob i see is the autos, a C4 Bellhousing is just under 800 bucks so its not cost effective, would have loved the motor from Joe’s Cortina, 3.3 ltr Turbo Crossflow running 8 sec qtr mile times, so for me and to sound crazy a 3.3ltr 200 cube crossflow that has enough power to run 8’s over the qtr is the ultimate six.

The Speedy Differentials Cortina also has run high eights, its heavier than the above cortina. Turbo 4ltr Crossflows are da bomb

What about the newer Aussie sixes in the new Falcons, the XR6 Barras? Those are pretty good n' powerful. Turboed and big intercooler.

Barra 310T FG

The high power variant of the FG's turbo I6 is in the new FPV F6. Featuring a larger turbocharger and intercooler, this is the most powerful engine (and the first to produce more than 100 hp (75 kW) per litre) manufactured in Australia. As a result, the F6's rolling acceleration from 80 km/h (50 mph) to 120 km/h (75 mph) is 2.8 seconds.

Power: 310 kW (416 hp) @ 5250 rpm
Torque: 565 N·m (417 lb·ft) @ 1950-5200 rpm
