the intake IS PART OF THE CYLINDER HEAD!

holy crap, I never really noticed that on my falcon untill I started to read about it and consider the inline six as a performance engine possibility. I was thinking about making a custom individual tube EFI intake manifold as a welding class special project, but again, its part of the cylinder head! Luckily I'm going to be in a year of machine shop class too. Has anyone had any sucess in cutting off the intake, machining it flat, taping holes, and making thier own flanges and intake for these heads? Hide your babies if I'm gonna be the first to take a stab at it.

heh...
alcoholics refer to that as "the moment of clarity"

we've had a few guys plan to do just that, but i'm not sure if anyone actually has gone through with it

good luck with it though

If you do decide to do it. More power to ya. Get a replacement head just incase.

yeah, I was gonna go on ebay and find a clapped out one first, try my hand with the angle grinder/cutoff wheel before using the expensive equipment. I'll take pictures and let you guys know how it goes.

Yes a couple of guys did do it back in the 60s there names are Ak Miller and Bill Stroppe. These articles may help you plan your project.

Then you could fabricate one of these:

I bought a head around 20 years ago that had the manifold milled off, and plates welded on to it,never ended up putting it on my car as i went to a crossflow, but couldn't see why it wouldn't have made some nice power gains. As it was very close to a 2V style in the ports......cheers Anton...

Hey i too, am gonna cut the manifold off and make a better intake. Im not going with fuel injection tho. I still have yet to decide what carb or carbs im gonna run. Just cut the manifold off and the exhaust since some of the exhaust bolts are cast to the intake and braze a flange on the head. Then you can start making your intake manifold. Are you gonna run fuel plugs to all 6 cylinders or just 3 big ones?I dont know a whole lot on fuel injection. But when making a manifold remeber that you want velocity and volume. You dont want to much volume, because then you wont get a good vacuum signal. But for fuel injection the best system would be a programable, feed-back- controlled, electronic fuel injection system. An outfit called Megatronics or megajection, sells a programable brain box for do it yourselfers. Almost all this information is from Seattle Smitty. He knows his s%#*. Hope that helped.

Hey, guys, news flash:

Lynx (Aussie Speed Equipment Co.) had a few intakes laying on the shelf for this application, last time I talked to the owner about a year ago. One is for three Weber/Delortto two barrels, the other is for three SU's, similar to what AzCoupe just sold.

You shave off the intake, then drill and tap bolt or stud holes to mount the side-draft intake. Sort of a home-made 2V head. Anyhow, they had about 7 or 8 of each of these intakes, probably won't ever make anymore.

Anybody have the phone # for Lynx handy?

At least they don't take the money and not deliver... The two should combine:

Sound good?

8) Assuming you mill off the cast intake and create a new mounting surface for an intake..what aluminum intakes are out there now that would have exact or similar intake port spacing?

8) I'm picking up a 200 head from a buddy today. I'm planning to remove the intake and leave the exhaust ports just as they are. There will be enough fabrication as it is with the intake. I'm planning on welding up a stell tube intake and mount it with a two barrel Holley with the bowl in the proper direction.

8) Picked up the head today. Will check it out fully and then begin the plan of removing the intake.

The idea of an intake plate much like the old Pro Stock 351 Cleveland heads comes to mind.

Or , I'll weld up an intake and have a plate welded to the cast head surface.

Either way, this head is in for some serious changes!

8) I'm still in the design - measure it twice cut it once stages. I want to make the best use of my idea before I start to cut it. Results soon though.
