Thinking of a super/turbo charger

I was wondering if someone could explain how to setup a supercharger for me, on a 300. I understand the concept but dont know exactly how it all goes together. Ive been told i have to build a box for the carb and what not, also i would prefer a supercharger over a turbo, just my preference, i would prob run something from the early 90's tbirds or similar. Oh, also, my motor is built up pretty wild, and i have a fairly large cam and have heard that supercharging a wild cam isnt a good combo cause the boost leaks out during the overlap, is my cam too big?? it is this one [http://cranecams.com/?show=browseParts&lvl=2&prt=5&Vehicle_Type=Auto&Cylinders=6&Engine_Make=FORD&Year=1981&Engine_Size=240-300%20C.I.&partNumber=503941&partType=camshaft]
Thanks for any help[/url]

that 216/228 cam is great choice for a supercharger.

the 3.8 liter T-bird supercharger is really too small. It can barely keep up with a 3.8 let alone a 4.9

Ok thats good news about the cam, what supercharger would be a good choice then?

Depends on what your goals are - - - I like turbos so I say "go with a turbo-supercharger!"!!

There are many different efficiency levels for all different kinds of "air pumps". Turbos are the most efficient by far.

I would look at some of the centrifugal superchargers if you need pulling power for a trailer.
For rock crawling look at positive displacement units.

I dont pull ANYTHING with my truck, its just a hobby really, every once in a while ill pickup a load of mulch or something but thats it... I run my truck on the dragstrip and right now it runs around a 16 but thats because of gearing issues....the motor is crazy strong, but it doesnt have a whole lot of power under 2500 rpms, so thats where i would need it most. Also, i would like to get decent gas mileage, right now it gets about 12-16mpg and on the highway like -10 lol. im waiting on gears cause i might be getting my brothers s-10(i know i know, no comments please, its free and for travelling, haha) and if i do i will put larger gears in my truck since i wont need it on the highway. I would like to get the gears and see where my times are and then go supercharging afterwards, i just dont know anything about it, if someone could recommend a particular supercharger and explain how it works id be gateful!! lol. I think the gearing will put me in the low 15's maybe lower, but i want to be in the 14's so thats why im turning to supercharging. Thanks for any help

I would look at a 5.4 liter Ford supercharger, they come up on ebay from time to time.

You will need to have a machinist come up with some serpentineApullies/pulley adapters. That can get into some money. Also mounting it, too. all that adds up

Forget gears unless you have an overdrive trans.
