The PCV valve itself should just slide out the rubber grommet that is used to seal the valve to the valve cover. The rubber grommet should be pliable enough to be removed from the valve cover. Just grab a hold of the grommet and bend away from the edge of the valve cover hole until it starts to come out. If the grommet is not pliable enough to do this, it needs to be replaced. The seal around the surface of the PCV valve should be leak free. A leak at this point and a PCV valve that is not operating properly can cause some idle problems.

Measure the hole in the valve cover and the outside diameter of the PCV valve and make a note of each. Use this to select the proper replacement for your setup.
