Hi Fellas.
Since I toasted my 292 the PO transplanted in my `55, I've decided to go a different way and put back a 223 I6 which was what it was born with.
Have salvaged a unit which appears low miles and unmolested.
HOWEVER, for the "molesting"... I'd like to add a little spirit to it, and hope to get a nice melody out the exhaust while I'm at it. Tell me what you think, and maybe steer me in the right direction on a couple Q's.
Bore to 30 over, with appropriate flat top pistons.
Deck the block about 30, maybe more... is 9-1 compression achievable/prudent?
Find a 3/4 cam or just a tad less...something w/loppy duration... any sources?
Found some hi-lift rockers... but 1) is that redundant to what can be achieved with a cam grind, and 2) does that require special push-rods?
A Clifford intake with four barrel adaptor for something 360-400 cfm
A Clifford or similar header set-up with Dynamax like resonator
Also wondering whether I'll need to go to a different fuel pump... electric?
This will be appropriately clean, painted or chromed, and neatly mated to the 3-speed for now, and a 9" from a 70's LTD.
Anyway, I tried to seach "223", and "I-6", and got nothing... so I figured I just post-up.
I think a "built" vintage I-6 would be off the beaten path of the SBC's, the FE's, and the Y's that have defined the fattie icon. I'm not lookin for 1/4 times... just something that scoots, sounds and looks different.
What do you guys think... am I wasting my time... to much fuel and not enough air... not possible... anything? The cam seems to be the challenge at hand, but what about compression limits?
I should shut up now... thanks... Brian
