Timing chain stretch

So I've got the clifford timing set with 2,000 miles on it. I can now turn my crank 8 degrees before I see movement in the dizzy!!! Is it normal to waste one like this in this short of time? I'm guessing that I'll have to invest in the gear drive now. I have a stock one that I'll put in in the meantime, but should I expect that one to grenade itself in short order as well?

John, the only timing chain you need to purchase, is from Mike @ www.fordsixparts.com

This an adjustable roller timing chain imported from austrailia & is the only chain to purchase.

The quality is the best.

Don't waste your money on any other timing chain. William

8° play is like a 4° retard. I'd be mad, too.

Actually, the chain stock is German! The gears are CNC-ed in Oz. John, if possible can you take a picture of the play with the front cover off?

Addo-the stretch is actually closer to 10 degrees so I'm guessing the chain will be hanging off the gears like spanish moss when I pull the cover!
My hard-drive on my good computer crashed this week so I'm using the old tower for now (not compatible with my camera equip). If I can get the use of one at work, I'll try and post it. I'm assuming for others to learn from? The double roller is just as good as the gear drive as far as performance and reliability? By the way, I'm assuming my hesitation off the line reverts to this.

The gears are noisier, the stuff about shock loads being transmitted more is BS to me - nobody raises those issues with the big six, or GM ones; all came with gears from new.

Chains can likely be supplied separate - I don't think Mike's stocking them yet but I am pretty sure he could get them.

Most people won't believe the slack until they see it. It's a way off jumping a tooth - but at 5500 RPM, imagine it flapping in there! That's why a picture would be good. I'll post one of a worn stock chain, too.

Adam.

The stock chain I removed from my engine had over 1" (total) play!!
Funny thing is, chain and gears all look nice stiill???

Yeah, I was pretty surprised when at the stretch when I rebuilt my Xflow - surprised it didn't come off.

if you are looking for gear drive i have a FSPP set that i never ended up using. id be willing to sell them if you are interested

thanks
John
