Timing Cover Bolt

I was putting the timing chain cover back on the 200 6 cylinder for my 1966 convertible mustang and one of the bolts just turned inside the hole instead of getting tight. I pulled it out and noticed it had stretched and cracked about 3/8" up from the bottom. I don't know how I got lucky enough that it didn't break off down inside the block!

Does anyone out there happen to have an extra timing chain cover bolt like the one I need? The threads are 1/4 - 20 and 1 3/8" long and the head takes a 3/8" socket to tighten/loosen it. I know that you can buy a replacement set from National Parts Depot, but I only need one bolt and I'd hate to have to buy the whole set.

There are two lengths of the bolts on the timing chain over -- this is one of the shorter ones. I'm including a link to the picture of the bolt that almost broke for reference.

As the bolt is a standard size,why don`t you just go to the local hardware store and get one?

The bolts from the hardware store are not the same as this bolt. The thread size is the same, but the head is way different and would stick out like a sore thumb compared to the correct ones on the timing cover. I'm looking for the correct bolt so my motor does not look like I just threw it together. Thanks!

I replaced all of my timing cover, water pump, and t-stat bolts with shiny ones from the HW store. Only ran me a few bucks. I'm the paranoid type and don't like re-using bolts that have been on for too long. In my case, that stuff hadn't been apart in 25 yrs or so.

Thanks for the input, but again, I am looking for an original Ford bolt that belongs on this motor. I'm not interested in anything other than what would have come on this motor originally from the factory.

Altho signed to google can't C ur bolt.
If U want the exact - U may have to go the extra. Can't have both often (low price'n exact prt).

Unless U used that bolt somewhere else & 'boogered it up" there, I B more concerned abt what happened to the threads "in the hole" than the rest. That's just me. Would U wanna chase them to assure quality & 'grab'?
