I have a 200 in my Fairmont that has about 135,000 miles on it. Starts, runs and idles great. Some surging under full throttle launches. I have been messing with the timing and finally got it set where everything seems to perform best. I put my light on it and it must be 40 degrees advanced. It starts good when hot, not like the timing is too high. Don't know what to make of this. I assume the timing chain has stretched, but this much initial timing to compensate?? Any thoughts on this????

Vacuum was disconnected. The advance is hooked to a timed port on the carb, so there is no vacuum at idle anyhow.

Only thing I can think of is the balancer has slipped.
Could it be the plug wires are off by one?

Don't really think the wires are off, but would sooner think the balancer has slipped. I know small block Mopars will do this........Wasn't sure whether or not Ford 6 bangers would as well. I'll pull # 1 tomorrow and get it to TDC and see where the timing mark is.
