timing ?'s

I know this is bad....but as a base line I haven't touched my timing since I got the turbo running....I know it was a little weak like 10 degrees or so inital...maybe 8

but at highway speeds and in the upper RPM I don't have alot of umph to it. BUT when I had the vac unhooked it seemed to pull stronger up top. so as a valuable topic what should I be doing for timing? I was looking at hookingup a hobbs switch I have to my duraspark for the start retard to act as a poor mans boost retard.

That's an idea.

Is your balancer accurate? You'll need to find true TDC to be sure. Then you'll know what your timing is really at.

Boost gauge yet??

no boost gauge yet (waiting on a paycheck or two....not turning it up until then anyway) I have no idea if my balancer is right or not...but when I was running the 5200 carb this summer it was pretty doggy but gave steller milage assuming that was a weak timing setup I assumed that it would still be safe for the turbo to run with.

Probably was just really lean.

You get any pinging at all?

no none at all. well that carb was a as jetted by ford 74 5200 ....so was jetted lean....and I needed to mod my linkage so the secondaries were barely opening....

maybe I will pick up a bolt this weekend to mess with the balancer and checking it out.
