Timing sets.. what's the difference?

I found a couple timing sets at work today. One for my '83 200 and the other for a '66 Mustang 200. On this forum I read that the '83 actually has about 4 degrees retarded timing on the cam gear for emissions, EPA, fuel efficiency, whatever. The two engines appear to have the same part numbers for the timing sets( PN #73018) How could this be? I found sets from Cloyes and they both list the same part #'s for each engine. Could someone clear this up for me?

Howdy Larry:

1st off consider Williams advice on the double roller set.

The Advance timing set thought may have come from me. We're still researching the issue, but are now thinking that late 70s and early '80s 200 cam may have been ground with advanced timing to accomplish the epa and low end power goals. 250 engines got a different timing gear solution.

It now appears that all 200 timing sets are the same. The source is parts catalog numbers. They only list one timing set for 200s from '65 to '84.

The search continues.

Do yourself a favor and contact Mike for a double row timing chain and gear set and an appropriate cam.

Thanks guys, I thought it may have been an error in one of my parts books, but when I called two or three other places and they had the same thing l knew something was up.
