well, with the new head work and head gasket, I reached 90 mph at W.O.T. yesterday. Maybe with more lead up time, I could have gone higher.

when the mechanic re-installed plugs, he didnt gap them ay .050 like I asked...he forgot...so there is room for improvment. Also, the idle is a little low. I dont know if that will help top end but I am gonna bump it up for around town drivability.

I also noticed that my engine started smoking bad at 420,000 before the top end rebuild.... 4:20..time to smoke

I have gotten my speedo into the 90s (I know it could have gone higher), running 205/70R14s

Glad to hear the 68 running well, chaz.

actually...I tried running against my wife's BMW for speed times before....but then remembered she has low profiles and 18" on it. Now she has a jetta...with stock tires and rims. I will check this weekend.

Just wanted to let you guys know I have more power...finally...without even increasing gap

90 is cool

BTW...running 215/70/14's

i've got to 95 actual mph with the 2.77 and 24.16" tall tires, speedo was reading over 100

Just off the top of my head, 195/70-14 will give you a "true" reading. 205/70-14 will be 5% under, and 215/70-14 is 10% under. If so, then you may have actually been running as fast as 99 MPH.
Work the % backwards for MPG readings. An indicated 20 MPG would be a true 22 MPG. :D

i was once clocked as going 95 down I-10 (yes, clocked, as in cop + radar gun + me zooming by) i was lucky getting by with what i did, and that was stock (i was also 17 an invincible)

i liked how the semi-trucks moved out of my way

I like long rides from Miam i to Tampa or Orlando...you can really build it up on either I95 or Aligator alley down here.

Once had my BMW (big money wasted) up to 130mph. My wifes new Jetta does 140...will have to it that soon. I hit 110 in the Jetta regularly.

I was till impressed with the non-aero dynamic Mustang hitting what might have been 100pmh

Yeah, youth! :D I drove from Tampa to Daytona Beach in about 90 minutes one dark February night in 1968. Ole Betsy was a '64 Galaxie fastback, 352, 4V, dual exhaust, FMX, and huge cheater slicks. :D Don't quite know how fast I was going, but my speedo showed 95 MPH. All I know is, when I had the speedo checked after a subsequent ticket, it read 62 MPH at an actual 70. If I extrapolate, I drove to Daytona at around 105 MPH. Gas mileage sucked, though.

gas milage...who checks gas milage? j/k :D

Yeah...above 70...it starts to suck (atleast with the 1bbl)

since I have gotten my head worked on...I am getting around 20. Good enought for me cause my BMW gets around 24 and doesnt get 1/2 the looks...even with the 18" rims and subwoofers...

damn damn damn

I just remembered, a week too late, what I wanted my mechanik to do...increase the intake to 1.75.

damn...oh well. Make it easier to give up and sell it..

I haven't had too much done to the car yet, just new ignition and the basic tuneups but when I replaced my air filter for a more free flowing one and put a '68 exhaust manifold and bigger pipe to the muffler, my top speed reached on the way to Nashville moved from around 90 (I have bigger BFG tires, not sure the size, will check when I get home) to 100 on the speedo. Gas milege didnt seem to suffer toooooo bad altho it was a short drive, around 35 minutes or so. Oh well, cant wait to see what happens when school starts and I have everything done that I can afford!

Speaking of MPG, the convertible gets aboout 2 MPG less with the top down. What the heck, what good is a ragtop with the top up? 8)

My Falcon has 185/75/14 all the way around, my speedo has been as high as about 93-94 MPH *just couldn't seem to get it to 95 :P*. so that would make my true in the high 80's right and would also make my MPG look better than it actually is... well thats not cool, oh well

Good stuff to know (atleast i can get away with my speedo saying im speeding and if its minor i really wont be speeding)

I don't know what size the Falcons came with. The Mustangs came with 6.95-14s, which are close to the 185/75-14 and the 195/70-14 diameter. The following has a link to sizes: http://fomoco.com/mustang-forum/
I originally used 185/70-14 because it was the same diameter as the tires my car had on it when I bought it, 6.45-14. I've stayed with the 185/70 because they essentially give me a 5% lower gear than stock. 8) I also like looking at the high side of 80 when I'm cruising (85-90 around Hotlanta), even though I know it's more like 76. :D

Thanks for the site BIGREDRASA. thanks to my falcon still having the tire sticker in the glove box i now know that it came with 6.95-14 which means its so close to a 185/75-14 that the difference isnt even worth noticing. it works out to be about 30RPM higher with the 185/74-14's at 62MPH.

Not that it really matters but were the cars from that era 100% accurate or were they a little off from the factory

Factory speedos used to read 3-5% high, or higher. :? I guess it was a safety thing. I don't think Detroit would deceive us about their cars' abilities, would they?
