torque converter studs grinding starter

264 112lc advanced 4deg, i think the problem is in fact the flex plate, i ran 110 oct fuel and no change, i bought a stethoscope and did not find any noise coming from the timing chain, the engine was not pinging like i thought it was but, i did find a lot of noise coming from the inspection cover, i removed it and i seen sparks flying off the flex plate, the noise was much louder. the engine is running perfectly, it must be the flex plate

:hmmm: Can you see through the inspection hole in front of the flex plate with a mirror and flashlight to tell were it's hitting? Is your block plate nice and flat or has it be bent? You could be right about the flex plate being the cause too, but you would need to compare and measure it to a known good one. Looks like you might need to move the trans back or take it out again to see what's causing it to hit the torque convertor studs. Good luck

I'm probably not the only one thinking this - are you absolutely positive the torque converter is seated properly?

Remember to put thread sealer on the crankshaft bolts to prevent an oil leak.
I will be surprised if the flexplate is not your problem.

the flax plate must be the problem, i ground down the converter studs, now the car runs fine and sounds normal, i just have to re-adjust the carburetors and distributor.
