Turbo for a 1960 144 ??

I got myself a nice little Falcon 2 door sedan with a 144 in it.

I am kind of kicking around an idea of putting a little low boost turbo, an overdrive tranny, and some lower final gears in the little car.

Problem is I have no experience with either these little 6s or turbos, so I am hoping that some of you who know what you are doing can tell me if I am just crazy, or if this idea has some merit.

I really dig the under hood look of the little car, I was thinking about a 200, but fact is that I have 3 144s counting the one in the car, and I would like to give the 144 a run.

I have the fabrication skills to pull this off, but I don't want to spend a lot of time and effort on something that is just no good from the get go. :D

Thanks in advance for your help!

8) you are going to want a small turbo for this motor because of the smaller displacement. pick a turbo from something like a turboed escort from the 80's. it used a small turbo for its 1.6 liter motor. you will also want a good waste gate to control the boost.

this sounds fun!!! the smallest 6 turbo'd... that is different indeed, oh when it's finished make sure you give a good description of ppls faces.

I think the fact that you have a few extra 144's around will help save you money, not only that but everybody is doing the 200 swap, i'm very instrested in the outcome of such a feat. (sadly i'm in the same boat about turbo's)

Good Luck!!

A turbo from one of the Ford 2.3L I-4 found in the Mustangs or Thunderbirds should work since the displacement is so close.

They also came with BOPs.

Thanks for the answers.

I am going to move forward on this over the next few months. I want to try to think this through well enough to not make any grievous errors... ;D

I will think really hard about all of the answers given.

Thanks again!

Go for the IHI RHB5 off of an 87-88 turbo coupe thunderbird or mazda, the earlier ones used a bigger T3 and they were real doggy in stock form. The IHI uses a T3 pattern with makes future upgrades easier and most people get rid of the IHI's in favor of the T3's once they start makin upgrades so theyre cheap.

I just rebuilt a 170 for my comet and recently killed the engine in my cougar 2.3 turbo (T3).... I'm very interested in any information that'll help bring the two together
