Turbo for stock enigne and strong engine?

Would it be possible to have a big turbo on my XF running low boost now while the engine is stock and not blow the engine up. When the new engine is in up the boost to pull around 350 to 400rwkw.
It is currently a stock EFI 250 x flow with a COME stage 3 head and cam. Cam will be removed and replaced with stock item.

Which turbo?
I figure i can run 7 or 8 psi with the stock engine daily and then 14 to15 when the engine is built and around 22 when i drag or go on the dyno.

Is the boost made from one turbo the same as another turbo at the same psi level? Boost is an atmospheric pressure measure right?

Stick with the split pulse TO3 turbo that the Commodre RB30ET engine ran. With the right housing, there is an easy 260 kw (350 hp) lurking in there. (That's close to 265 rear wheel hp or about 200 rwkW). The C.O.M.E cam wont hurt that figure...it could go to more.

The trick is an auxhiliary fuel system, or a stock reworked EFI with a snappier control module. This is a big cost, but is the only way to go.

AIT Falcon Turbos (XE's) had about 190 kW ( 200 rear wheel ponies, 150 rwk with a reworked BW 40 auto transmission)

Falcon Gran Prix (Dick Johnstons ill-fated carby turbo which Ford decided not to cover the waranties on) was about 162 kw, or 128 rwKW.

Mike Vine Turbo XE's ran about 200 kw or 260 kw ( 158 and 205 rwkW) in the upspec Turbo versions, with just a rebuilt stock engine with some durability modes, and water/methanol injection with a machined chamber for less compression.

The full house 250 EFI x-flow is not limited by anything but the crank for top power supply. Heads, intake, ports and blocks are all tough enough. Maybee at 700 hp flywheel ponies people will start going back to the cast iron head if the cylinder block breaks. One Chrysler Hemi 265 guy has shied away from the new Mopar in-liner alloy head because the block in a friends car split at the 700 hp level. Remember, 475 rwHP is about 265 rear wheel kilowatts when you have a C4 relaying the power back. Then a GT 40 or TO4 is going to be the go. If your just racing it, a C4 is the only way for your bird to continue to fly. Any thing else will break the bank!

As an estimate, take the highest flywheel kw reding you've seen on a streetable six, and double it. Thats what you'll get if you get the turbo and fuel delivery and intercooling right. 290 hp I've seen, so 580 hp with 18 pounds of boost is a pretty good 325 rear wheel kW. (Boost ratio at 18 pounds is 2.22, which will be a two-fold power increase if your engine builder and tuner knows his stuff.

Finally,I want to come and see you do with your tyres what Jimi Hendrix did with his guitars!

I'll thow in my two cents worth!!

I had the following turbo setup in my XE falcon with very good results. (Same turbo is now in my cortina) The turbo is a T04 with a 1.0 exhaust housing and a .6A/R compressor. Using this turbo, boost starts comming in at about 2000rpm and goes balistic at 3000 all the way to 5500. If you are going to use a high stall you can increase the exhaust housing to 1.1 or higher to give you even more top end power. Having said this, I don't think think this unit can produce your required 400rwkw the way it is.(Might be just over 300rwkw) You can however change the front compressor cover/wheel to larger items like T66 if needed.

The question regarding boost from one turbo being the same as another..

The boost will be the same, but the larger turbo with less restrictive exhaust passages will produce alot more power for the given boost level.

The boost from the small turbo will fight with the back pressure created in the exhaust manifold thus producing less engine power.
