hey everyone I have a couple questions about turbos I am seeing on e bay.I see some of the garrets and kkk and others going for $300-$1000 then I see some brand new for $150-$200.Is this a situation where you get exactly what u pay for?If you type internal wastegated turbocharger in the e bay search you will see what I mean.I have a 250 and dont have the money to be wasting $200 on a trash turbo that works for a week.Does anyone have any expierience with or see any concerns with these.ANY THOUGHTS are appreciated thanks again everyone!!

Based on cynicism - no personal experience buying turbos - I'd expect any cheap new unit, or cheaper used turbo to need a full rebuild.

That may still bring it in below market price for a name brand, new piece.

All that said and done, would you buy the carpet before framing your house? :P Get the cheapest dead turbo for mocking up, and once you have the fuel and ignition mapped out you can start trying functional units.

Avoid the bargain basement Chinese-built turbos that are all over eBay. They have a terriblle rep for reliability and the parts to rebuild them are as bad as the originals. A used Garrett or other name brand is a better deal than a new POS.

I paid 150 for a new turbo off a store called cxlighting when i got it i could not belive that i got such a high quality turbo for such a low price, i havent put it on yet but it spins freely and the blades look good. i think it was an overstock item because on their website they are way more expensive

I have seen quite a few cars running these cheap ebay turbos locally. I have yet to hear of ANYONE having a problem first hand, only online horror stories. I recently rode in a crx with one of these turbos, he was running 15 pounds of boost and would cook the tires through 1st 2nd 3rd and spin going into 4th on drag radials. scared the crap out of me because it was all over the road. 2 days later one of my friends purchased a T70 chinese turbo off ebay for $250 shipped, he just got it 2 days ago so if we get it on and going and it works well ill let you know. He heard the story and decided against buying the ball bearing garrett he had originally planned on and at least if it fails he has everything already setup.

wow that would be really cool to hear how it works.I mean some of the cheapest speakers and amps I have put into my cars have been some of the best I have heard and used in my expierience so it shows you one never knows till its tried!

Seems alot of the local ricers are using them and say they have had pretty good luck with them.

Be my luck I will get the only bad one.

not to steal the topic but does and one know the exhaust port spacing of a 92-98 BMW E36 Engine?

ANY IDEAS?

I think i see where your going with this very interesting

The port spacing on the BMW S52 motor does not look the same. Ours are two grouped close together at center and the outer two on each end spaced out.

For that matter anyone looked at a Nissan L28 motor? IIRC the center two exhaust ports are siamesed like ours but dont remember where the outer ports are.

For that matter IIRC their exhaust and intake are both on what would be the drivers side of the US model.

just thought I would update you a little on the ebay turbo my friend ordered. So far everything looks good. no play or anything like that (lol you would hope not if its brand new) spins nice and easy and all that good stuff. He is having a manifold made for his car so it will probably be a couple of months until its running and making boost.

Cool deal thanks for the update! Just because I want the hx35 dont mean I dont want to hear how these work! I mean anyone can say what they want in an ad but your on road test will speak 1000 times more to me!plus it will be spring before I will get mine nomatter which way I go.

I have been wondering about these turbos for a long time. There are a lot of bad stories, but I have yet to hear directly from someone with experience with them. It is always someone saying they heard about someone that...

I wish we had more direct feedback on these because it would make this type of install more viable (cheap) for those of us without deep pockets.

I think I may go ahead and try one here soon.I was wondering if anyone could inform me about these specs. t3/t4 turbo 63 trim 60 a/r 2.5 v band outlet.wastegated internally at 8 psi.Can the wastegates be adjusted for more or less pressure? Would this be a good turbo for my 250? thanks everyone for the help! :D

I bought one of the cheap turbos on ebay for $160 and have been running it on my nissan for two years with no problems. One issue I ran into was that the wastegate port was too small and at higher rpm the boost would start to rise. I took a die grinder and opened it up to match the waste gate flapper and it worked great after that.

rholum great to hear that may be the route that I take. How do you determine the turbo to be right for your motor without any maps? Ok so the boost controller will allow me to adjust above and beyond the wasetegate.
