two barrel carb adapter

i have a two barrel carb from a 68 fairlane off of a 289. it is rated at 287 cfm. i am not sure which carb adapter to use. ive read mixed feelings about both. has anyone used both? obviously i want to go with the cheaper and easiest install. but do any mods have to be made for either. i want to purchase the stovebolt carb adapter. how do you feel? also what is involved in the changing of the throttle linkage. any help would be great

I have a 62 Ranchero with the 170, so it is not the same, but here is what I found. I put the weber carb (stovebolt) and the carb adapter (clifford) on with no problems. I had been told that the stovebolt adapter did not line things up correctly. I bolted it on, connected fuel line, and was able to just put a slight bend in the linkage and everything works perfect. Good Luck.

lots fo talk here recently (a lot started by me) on these adaptors

so the clifford worked for you? It kept the orientation of the carb facing the right way?

Ok. Ok...sounds good. another point in favor of clifford

yeah, the clifford was more expensive, but it was extremely easy to put on.

I have a couple of pictures if you would like me to email them to you[/img]

from what ive been reading the stovebolt adapter has to be used with the original carb spacer to work.what if you just drilled two new holes for the stovebolt adapter to reposition it. it is only like 20 degrees from the look of things

the clifford doesnt have to be used with the spacer? well that just sheds new light on it for me..i HATE the spacer

for my appkication I was able to trash the spacer (by trash I mean throw in a pile of parts in the corner of the garage). It was very easy, total of about 20 min in the driveway to do the complete swap

well i am tight on cash and i am trying to budget things to save for important things. and i have to purchase books for school in three weeks. dont get me wrong. clifford sounds perfect but not the price. i am willing to manipulate the stovebolt to make it fit. has anyone on this site used the adapter(stovebolt)? and can tell me what you had to do to make it fit? either with or without the carb spacer.
