Two Different Distributors

On the CI tech page Mike says a person can get a Duraspark II dist. from our local auto shop by asking for a 78-9 ford Fairmont dist. When I looked up the 78 Fairmont 3.3 dist. on the Autozone web page I have a choice of 2. One is a single vacuum and the other is a dual vacuum. Can someone help me out with the difference of the two distributors. Thanks

8) the dual vacuum distributor has a vacuum retard function for california spec cars. it is there to reduce emissions in certain circumstances. unless you are building a turbo motor, or are building a california spec car, pick the single vacuum distributor.

You want the Single ( dual is just a retard for smog ) it wont have a optimized curve Nothing New, Factory OR Rebuilt does , but that can be done

It comes factory curved if I understand FalconSedanDelivery. Can I still recurve it later with the kit Mike talks about on the CI tech page?

yes you can recurve, or have it recurved, as you wish.

At this point I just want to know I can do a recurve if necessary with a distributor purchased from autozone.

Rich, I should have just waited a few minutes and I would have been all set. Thanks and stay warm. 11 degrees here.

The curve from a reman. dist is totally useless.
The curve as well as the vacuum advance needs to be custom tailored to your specific engine combination.
billythedistributorman@live.com aka wsa111 can take care of your distributor.
This requires a sun distributor tester machine to accurately plot your curve. Bill

by the way denny, if oyu are planning on building a turbo motor, get the dual vacuum distributor, that way you can use the vacuum retard feature as a boost retard feature.

 Rbohm.I have two words for you.And they AIN`T Merry Christmas. :rolflmao: :rolflmao: :rolflmao:
Good luck.Have fun.Be safe.
