using up some oil.......

Hey ya'll,

I noticed since I got my car back from the body shop that it has been using up quite a bit of oil. Here is what I have noticed:
1. A couple of drops of oil around the oil drain plug.
I tightened the plug and that seems to have stopped the drips.
2. Last month I added 1 quart of oil.
After approximately 1 month, I am 1 quart low oil.

I was a little over due on an oil change and I know the oil may have thined a little, but with my motor having been rebuilt just over 1 year ago, I would think the rings have seated and they should have a closer tollerance. I really hope it's not rings. I changed out my oil and filter yesterday, so I am running nice clean and thick oil. I'll keep an eye on my level. I want to run a compression test on it either this weekend or the next. What PSI should I be looking for??

Thanks.
Ted

I drip some oil that seems to be from the oil plug too...but looks like it is actually coming from oil pan seal after closer inspection.

it just falls down and gets blow back and hung up on drain plug

Today, I spoke to the shop that rebuilt my motor for me.
John, the owner told me to:
1. check the PCV. If broken, could cause excessive oil consumption.
2. perform wet and dry compression tests.

I took out my PCV and checked it for the rattling sound. I heard it rattle and saw no oil comming from the PCV or the hose.
I also checked my coolant just in case the head gasket took a dump on me. Coolant is clean and clear.

John told me that it could be a burnt valve or valve seat.
So, having said that, I will try to aquire a compression tester and run wet and dry tests on the motor. If those readings come up ok, I will take the car to John's shop to let him take a look at it.
I certainly hope it isn't rings! John told me he would replace all the valve seats for $200 if they are in fact bad. Keep your fingers crossed and I'll keep you all posted.
Thanks.
Ted
