I just got my 1969 250 carb for my new engine and the vaccum port is cross threaded, and i cant get my vaccum nipple to screw in. Is there a way to tap this hole and just get a different fitting, or should i just take the carb back?

Im worried that if i take the carb back they will think i did it. I have been forcing it a little since i spent like 2 hours on it...

Any ideas?

Yea, thats the size. Took it to the parts store today, he suggested that if i just got a few threads in, I could JB weld it into place and it wouldnt leak air. Sounds kind of like a jury rig to me, but i guess if it works, itll be fine.

The auto parts guy tried to retap the threads to the 1/8 size, didnt help too much.

Be real careful about getting metal pieces of the bad thread in the carb needle valve. Also if you try to blow it out with compressed air, use real low pressure.
Good luck,

Instead of JB Weld I would use #1 hardening gasket sealer. It will get hard and prevent air leaks, but if you ever had to remove it later you could. JB Weld could make it very difficult to remove, and since there is almost no load stress on that port why over do it?
