valve spring dampeners

I have a set of the fordsix valve springs with dampeners:

The machinist had some concerns that they don't seat very well against the stock retainer. He offered to remove them.

I then looked at the parts again on the website and noticed that is says it's supposed to come with retainers. Could that make the difference in the seating?

Anybody else get springs with retainers included?

Jackfish, all you need to do is get the retainers from FSPP which are designed for these springs.

Why does everyone try to save money & try to use a mismatched component.

When you purchase a camshaft also purchase the complete package from them, retainers, springs & keepers.

Buy the right parts from the beginning & you will not be in a situation such as this.

Do not remove the dampeners from the springs, they were put there to prevent spring harmonics. William

The website says they come with springs. There were none supplied, so I used the stock retainers. I have emailed Mike, with no response yet as to why I did not get the retainers with the springs...

Thanks for your input, and I really do appreciate all your help on this forum but I don't feel I need chastizing. I bought all the parts from Mike and I think there may have been an oversight on his part. I got the cam package with valves, springs and motor mounts on the side.

I also did not get a cam spec card with the cam I bought.

You know I was thinking I was suppose to get a cam spec card as well and I didn't. I'm not complaining mind you, Mike has been real good at keeping me informed of when something is coming and if there are any holdups----and there aren't usually any problems. I know what he is saying though Jackfish, I have mixed and matched some of my parts and though I think they will work fine, I would have been better off getting everything from Mike. It took me forever to find a place locally that carried the retainers I needed. Let Mike know about this and I am sure he will get back with you as soon as he can---I think I will email him about not getting my cam card too.

OK guys click on the link he provided and read the text. It says springs, with dampers and retainers.

Sorry for the delay in replying. We had a bad storm yesterday and it knocked out our cable/internet. Didn't get back online until tonight.

Yes, the retainers are suppose to be with the springs. If you didn't get them, just let me know and I'll send them ASAP. Sorry about that.

BTW, the dampers primary function is to prevent the higher rated single springs from bending sideways at top end revs. So it is very important to install them with the springs when supplied as a kit.

As for cam cards, I have scaned copies and will e-mail them to anyone who needs one, even if you have a hard copy. Just send me an e-mail request. A scan'd copy is nice, as you can keep it on your hard drive in case you lose the hard copy.

Kris and Darwin, I just e-mailed a copy of your respective cards.

Thanks Mike, got your messages with regard to this and appreciate your attention to the matter. :D
Great customer service is what will keep you ahead of the other guys.
I'm just glad my machinist brought my attention to it because I might never have checked. :stick:

Jackfish, sorry to jump on you, I saw the retainer mentioned & I didn't take the time to click onto the link that the retainers are part of the valve train package.

Im glad the problem is solved. At least your machinest is on the ball.

Good luck with your engine. Willaim
