valve stems..

now the stock small six stems are smaller than "normal" right? if I was going to oversize valves could I have the bores bored for a larger stem and run a newer style seal on it? (not a big fan of umbrella seals) was also wondering if doing this I could run some more common alve like a SBC or SBF so they would be dirt cheap.

Ya, you would have to machine the head for the larger valve seals.

And don't forget, besides have a larger diameter the chevy valve stems are also longer. So they need to be machined down. And if the tips were hardened you will lose that also.

I was thinking of ordering some custom valves for mine, but I'm sure it will be a bit more $$.

Nick,

It would probably be less expensive to us SI stainless valves. The machining of enlarging the stem guides and shortening the valves would be PRICEY.

SI Industries in Simi Valley, CA (805) 582-8285. They originally made them for Clifford, apparently had enough demand that they stock them. The 1.75 intake is #SEV 3007S (stainless). The 1.50 exhaust is #SEV 2530S (stainless). The cost is $9.90 each intake and exhaust.

Hope this helps.
Good Luck

Manley makes sbf size?length valves in the common sbc sizes so no need to cut the stems , Summit sells them .
