OK so if im turning right i get bad valvetrain rattle, i can turn the steering wheel back left a little bit and it will stop, turn back right a little bit and it starts again. engine is a 79' 200. this is some new stuff to me. never seen this before. any feedback would be great.

Need to hook a mechanical oil pressure guage up, sounds like an oil pickup problem when you make a turn.

Drop the pan & i'm sure you will find the problem. William

trust me its not the steering linkage. this is valvetrain rattle. it just started this soon after i put the duaspark ignition on it. well about a month after i guess. and it has a mechanical oil pressure guage 40psi is what it reads when moving. about 25psi at idle. when your turning and it is rattling the harder you push the gas the louder it is. do you think the lifters are starting to stick in the bores? i know when i tore the shortblock down for the 250 thats going in it. it took me about 3 hours the get the lifters out cause they were so worn in the lifter bores. and had so much sluge build up around them.

my guess is that when turning to the right all the gas is rushing to one side of the float bowl in the carb causing a lean condition which in turn make the engine start pinging(rattling).

ok, i just read that article on rocker arm shaft oiling hints. and it said that the oil passages going to the head can get clogged. i know my motor is due a rebuild, do you think that could be my problem? the top end isnt getting enuff oil? due to a clogged oil passage.
