Vibration: This is a crank and Flywheel question

Is the crank in a 1970 200 internally balanced?

Is the Crank in front of an automatic the came as the crank in a standard?

I have a horrible driving vibration that is NOT the driveline, it's likely the clutch or the flywheel or both...

Specs: 1970 200 1V (from a Maverick) in my 1961 Falcon Moredoor, with what I believe to be the original 202 3 speed.

The vibration CAN be stopped by sidestepping the clutch at around 70 MPH.... It don't alway's work to stop it though...

I removed the tranny twice adn the clutch in one day and both times the vibration was gone for about 3 to 7 miles even when I was hot rodding it and smoking the tires, but it alway's came back after that time.

WHat's going on here? Anyone?

I'm converting to a 303 soon but I don't know which flywheel and clutch to buy to fit the 10 spline shaft of the 303 and I don't know which car to get the correct tranny yoke off of.

Inline 6 are internally balanced and the harmonic balancers are the same for a manual or automatic. They require a zero balanced flywheel. That vibration could be a number of things... somebody put the wrong wheel on a car of my that was rubbing the fins on the brake drum; it took me ages to figure that one out.

Did you balance your driveline? is the tranny output shaft bearing okay? motor/tranny mounts in good shape? tires recently balanced?

Did you check that the pilot bearing is actually in the back of the crankshaft and fits the front end of the input shaft with the proper clearance, perhaps the cage is gone and the balls are all on one side. Is the vibration there when the car is not moving?

I had a mystery vibe problem that I never fixed. I had a horrible vibration that started about 45 mph and would last up untill about 70 mph. It would then make a loud pop that you could really feel through the car and then go away completely untill the next time I got onto the freeway after driving around town a while.

This was with the original 2.77 3spd in my ranchero. I drove it for months like that. I never figured it out, but swapping to a T5 made it go away.

Nothing is rubbing ANYWHERE...

I suppose I gotta answer my own problem here... :(

I am thinking my clutch and pressure plate (Although they are centered perfectly in the flywheel) are out of balance and that's my problem...

Since the vibration will go away if I hit the clutch and dump it just right after already goin' over 60 mph I will safely assume it's not a bent crankshaft and that when I finally put in the 303 and the 10" clutch all will be well in Tinseltown...
