I am in need of a 1/2-12 tap used back at the turn of the century (ca 1900, not ca 2000). Not the National Coarse 13 TPI used today. It is for a belt sander that has an antique motor with 1/2 -12 TPI on the end of the shaft. They are a bit pricey for a one-time use. Does anybody ave one in their tool boxes to lend/rent me?

Do you really need a tap to cut threads or will something to clean out a hole allready threaded??
I have taken a bolt several times and cut slots parralell to the axis To make what i call a soft tap.
As you can imagine they will straighten a thread or clean one out. but cutting No.

I'll keep an eye out for one for a real 1/2-12 Tap

It is an old American-built electric motor. I want to use it because it is beautifully pinstriped and gold leafed. I do not think it is Whitworth tooth profile. I need to make a crowned drive pulley with a bored center hole with threads on the end. A better machinist than me could probably figure how to turn the barrel shaped OD, bore the ID counterbore, and tap the ID with a 1/2-12 internal thread. I'm trying to find an easier way to do it.
