warning Light

Hi

I have the car started.Went to alternator from generator and hooked up MSD.Car is running a little rough but I think that is due to a choke problem and multiple exhaust leaks. My prblem is that my warning light will not go off.Does not seem to affect anything but what could be wrong?
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

You really need to check voltages with a voltmeter. That's one of those inexpensive, indispansible tools any mechanic should have in his/her garage.

SteveStang, For what it is worth, and I don't know if you just recently installed the new alternator, and whether it is the "one-wire" set-up or not, but when I first installed the "1-wire" my warning light stayed on as well. I had followed the instructions, and the instructions said something to the affect of reving the engine rpm's above idle rpm's to initiate the new small voltage regulator (that I installed on the back of the new alternator). What I found out on my set-up (the one-wire), and a few other people have mentioned the same thing, is that sometimes it takes a little bit more reving the engine rpm's than somewhat above idle rpm's. After I had re-checked all my wiring, and out of frustration, I really rev'd the engine to some much higher rpm's and the warning light went off! I hope in your case it is as simple as that! Good Luck! Jim

Thanks Jim

I have a 3 wire setup and followed the instructions.I will try reving a little higher and see what happens.
Thanks again.

Since you have a VM, what is the voltage across the Battery at Idle and above? Even at idle, the Alternator should be cranking out at least 13.5 V. Make sure The Alternator has a good ground to the block, and the "F" on the Regulator is connected to the "Field" on the Alternator.
