water pump pulley and camshaft pulley are rubbing

I installed a new water pump and the pulleys are rubbing at one point in the rotation. It makes a loud noise if I crank it up. Can I just install some washers underneath the water pump pulley to offset it so it won't rub and call it good?

the camshaft pulley?
do you mean the crankshaft pulley?

you've got to have the wrong pulley for something, most likely the waterpump
where did you get the pulley from?

and i would advice against shimming the pulley, i think that by the time you got it far enough away from the other pulley that you'd risk throwing the belt, or at least causing extra wear on the pump bearings or something

Pulley's are the same ones that's been on my Comet since 1961. The water pump I bought at Advance Auto Parts and it bolts on fine. I did notice that the rubbing in that one area only happens when I tighten the belt down. I'm hoping that it's nothing horrible.

hrm
does the shaft for the waterpump wiggle back and forth? might be a bad bearing in it

You know what it is? The holes for mounting the pump are slightly "off" compared to the old ones. So, it sits lower/closer.

Things possible, include filling the holes then drilling again - or returning the part as unsuitable/defective.

Or is the water pump pulley a different diameter depending on the engine.

Look in the factory shop manual & they list different diameters for various engines??

Is the water pump pulley bent????

It's worried that a four-letter word might have been offensive! Begins with C, rhymes with knock.
