Water pump woes

After finding and fixing a heater hose leak, I discovered that my water pump was also leaking. After removing the radiator, fan, and thermostat, I found that the water pump was not the original Motorcraft or Ford (big suprise I know ). Not only was it not original, but it wasn't even remanufactured right. The propeller looked to be shaved by the previous owner so that it would not hit the cylinder wall of #1, and also the fins looked to be bent on purpose so it could be tapped down. I've tried using a remanufactured pump from both Autozone and O'Reilly's, but both would hit the block when you tried to turn in. O'Reilly's has a new one they can order me for $40, but I want to make sure it will even fit! The casting # on the block is indeed a '68, so I know I'm specifying the right year. Is there a water pump spacer I'm not aware of? I know CobraSix installed a new one (key word being NEW) so I think I'll check that out before ordering a pricey original from Alamo Classic Mustang. Any ideas? Thanks

pumps seem to be shoddy made....

sometimes you have to go thru 2-3 before you get one that last longer than 4 months..

thats all I know

yeah, I got a NEW one from autozone mainly for the lifetime warranty that came with it. No problems with fit. And if it doesn't fit, take it back and get another or a refund.
