Weber Triple Carb Setup - First show results!

My setup is a 66' 200 w/250 head and triple weber carbs, using cheap VW type 1 air cleaners. I have been working on this car for over two years and finally got to the point where I could take it to the big Pavillions car show in Scottsdale. Lots of high end cars here like hemi cuda's, real shelby's etc. Well, I parked the car and raised the hood not expecting much. I was stunned at the number of people that wanted to talk to me about the triple carb setup and why I stuck with the 6 cylinder engine. The comment I heard the most was 'anyone can drop a small block into a mustang, but keeping the six is really cool'. I plugged Mike and his site quite a bit. Anyways just wanted you to know if you are planning to go with a triple carb setup you had better like to talk to people about it. :D

What model weber carb did you use and did you mount them directly to the log or did you use the Offy manifold?

My setup is almost done and I have a few old 1100's but I'm thinking of using three one barrel Webers. I"m sure they would be a better pick.

Could you post some pics?

Gene - I used the Offy intake for the 250 head, the center carb is a Weber 34 ICH and the outer carbs are Weber 34 ICT's. Thanks for the questions, here are some pics. You will note that the outer carbs are not hooked up yet, I am breaking the engine in with the center carb only. I Tried Holley 1904's but could not get them to run good at all, switched to Webers and it dialed right in.

That's great! The 3 carb on the 250 allows for the thirstier displacement. Your comments about the Holley carbs are right on.

Initial startup on the heavily modified 250/3X1, I used a known good running OEM YF1bbl with the outer carbs blocked off. After cam run-in and mild setup I switched to a 5200 Holley/Weber 2bbl for the center. After some road testing I swapped in the 7448-2300 Holley. That setup really gets attention. Setttng up the 1904 3X1 is a work in progress, I individually test the carbs on a good running '63/170. The outers /inners are small/large throat '04's.

Wow, that looks killer, congratulations. I bet you can't wait to get all three carbs synced and dial!

That valve cover is just one of the coolest ever!

That set up looks cool! Thanks for the pics I just posted about this saturday. you said to set each carb separate? That seems logical but I have never messed with a car with more than one carb? How much better over stock is it since my car is still in its stock form? Thanks John

It will feel like an entirely new engine. 8)

LAGRASTA - I am definetly itchin to get all three carbs in the mix. I just switched over to a cable throttle setup this past weekend, have to tie in with Offy linkage and the see how she runs.

The valve cover is copper plated, since I am a Arizona native I made the car a tribute to the Copper State. Copper is the first step in chrome plating so I just told the plating company to stop after the copper dip and polish it. They put a coat of laquer on it so it would not patina but I thought afterwards that actually might have looked cool after a few years.

Thanks for the comments, could not have (and would not have) done it without this board.

Just wait until the others are working-what a difference!! I love mine!!I'll give it to ya on the valve cover-very cool. If ya look very carefully at photos of mine, you'll see that the vac feed to tranny is made from copper tube left over from an icemaker kit!

Looks great! Are you going to copper plate the air cleaners?

I'm I the only one running three Holleys? If they weren't so cool looking, I'd gone with Webers too.

Jacks66,

Very nice! I've got an offy setup (Autolite 1100's) waiting to go on once the weather turns and instead of monkeying w/original linkage I've decided to go cable throttle as well. Looks like you have the same mechanical linkage as I so I'm wondering how you ended up routing the cable? Did you end up using a different pedal? My Mustang is in winter storage right now so I'm trying to picture the best setup in my feeble mind. Anyway you could post a pic when you get a chance?

Thanks and best of luck,
Jay

I know where you're coming from with the volume of people who are more interested in a little 6 banger tri power than the big block, double 4 bbl drag cars. I go to a decent sized cruise in during the summers almost every week and I usually talk to 20-30 people each time if I stick around the car :D

+1 on people liking the tri-power set up. I am also running the webers and have headers and two flowmasters as well, and when people hear it idling, they are blown away when I open the hood and show them the 6.

While mine hasn't been on the road in a while, it is getting closer to being able to be used as an occasional driver to work, and I am really enjoying getting the kinks worked out.

Good stuff.

Bill
