My offenhauser instructions suggested a mechanical advance distributer -

I would guess that the reason is because when the outer carbs open up the vacum drops on the center carb and therefore the port on the center carb can't really drive the vacum advance on the distributer.

I installed a unilite mech. advance unit and it didn't work well at all. So for now I am back to my Duraspark and a single carb.

What is the trick here? What do you 3x1 carb guys all run for distributers?Maybe my unilite is just messed up- I bought it used.

Iused the stock dizzy with a pertronix installed and the vacuum advanced plug (had mech advance). Worked good once I got it timed right. Try advancing the initial timing to about 16*BTDC.

Is there anything wrong with running mechanical advance - Does anyone out there have a working Unilite set-up?

Nothing wrong with running just mechanical advance. Actually, offenhauser recommends it with that set up. Just be sure to set the initial timing ahead a few degrees.
