My 69 250 mustang has an Autolite 1940 carb on it. A year ago it was rebuilt and now is going south again.

I see very little info re; this carb which leads me to believe it was not the stock carb. What make / model of carb was on the 250 engine for 1969? The Holley 1101?

I'm looking to get a reliable, newbie friendly carb put on that won't require yearly rebuilds.

A carb shouldn't require a yearly rebuild, but so many things could go wrong. Gaskets going bad, needle and seat not sealing, float sinking, throttle shaft worn out, diaphragms going bad. Most of that can be cured with a good rebuild using a high quality kit.

But the number one carb killer on old cars is dirt. Trash, rust, water, and dirt getting in and clogging jets and passages. Make sure the tank and lines are clean and the pickup still has a screen. Use good filters. If you allow dirt in, even a new carb will be running poorly in a year.

Hi Arizonaech, according to my books 69 was the Autolite 1101 replaced by the Carter RBS in 1970.----Larry
