when i'm at a stop and press the clutch of my 65 i hear a noise and a vibration in the pedal. it sounds like somthing rolling or, i don't know how to explain it. it is a 170 with a 3speed. any ideas?

Howdy 64:

It is possibly a failing throw-out bearing. It is only in action when the clutch is depressed. Let us know what you find.

I agree. Due your self a favor and collect the parts before you open it up and change the clutch and pressure plate while your in there. Unless they are realy realy new.

drop the tranny out of it, then everything you need to look at is right there on the rear of the engine. alternate method is to pull the engine (but this is usually more difficult)

8) one thing, make sure the throw out bearing you get fits properly over the input shaft housing. it should slide one the snout but have very little free play.

I have a 1964 Falcon 170 CUI 3 on the tree. You may just find out that everything is fine. I have the same issue and It doesn't seem to be a problem. Excuse my writing style but bare with me and read on.

My clutch just recently went out so I got a kit and went and dropped the tranny to see what needed to be replaced. I found out that my throw out bearing broke as well as the pressure plate. My clutch disk was totally worn out too. Surprisingly my pilot bushing was fine. I replaced everything and even got new bushings for the arm that goes in the engine (i forgot what thats called) and adjusted the clutch and wallah. It drives awesome. I did notice a few days later the same exact thing you're describing in your clutch pedal. Something I've never felt before. It worried me until I showed my friend who didn't think anything of it. We came to the conclusion that it's just vibration coming from somewhere else. Since that day I actually haven't noticed it, I completely forgot about it until I read this thread. It's been two weeks since I replaced the clutch and first felt the weird rolling vibration stuff in my clutch pedal. Everything seems to be fine.
I can now drive on the freeway and go as fast as 75+MPH where as before I couldn't go faster then 49MPH because of horrible vibrations that made it nerve racking to drive. I thought it was my drive line but it was the clutch.

When I press the clutch all the way to the ground I can feel and hear the rolling clicking vibration stuff. My friend says that im pressing the clutch way too far down and that since we replaced all the parts and adjusted the clutch, I only have to press the clutch in about a half a inch in order to shift. BUT even if I press the clutch in just that little bit, I can feel that rolling vibration, but not as bad as if it's all the way to the ground.

ANYHOO .....
After you replace your clutch and if you can still feel it, let me know what you plan to do and keep me updated. I don't even notice it anymore and use my car as my daily driver so i'm thinking it isn't a big deal, but if you figure something out, let me know.

ps.

this kit is the best price in town. This is what I got.
