What MPG does your 6 cylinder achieve ??

1) 1980 Ford Mustang hatchback, curb weight of 2866lbs. Advertised .41cd
2) stock 200 cid I6 1bbl carb
3) C4 automatic
4) 2.73: 7.5" rear
5) 87 octane
6) P215/60-HR14 tires, slightly over inflated. 2 1/4" exhaust split to duel exhaust after muffler. Emissions crap removed.
7) City mileage unknown/ 28 mpg highway

I used to drive 70 miles a day 6 days a week to work before I got laid off.

I based my mileage off the size of the tank, how much I put in, and mileage on trip odometer at time of next refill. I purposefully let car run as close to empty as I dared to see how much I could get in the tank.

A few different set ups I've run:

1) Make/Model car: 1965 Mustang Convertible
2) Engine Size : 200, Autolite 1100 carb
3) Tranny type : 2.77 3spd
4) Rear End Gear Ratio : 3.20:1
5) Fuel type (octane rating) : 89
6) Mods (if any) : Pertronix Ignition, flamethrower coil
7) MPG City/Highway: 21/22. Not much different in Highway and city due to RPMs at highway speed.

1) Make/Model car: 1965 Mustang Convertible
2) Engine Size : 200, autolite 1100 carb
3) Tranny type : 4 cylinder T5
4) Rear End Gear Ratio : 3.20:1
5) Fuel type (octane rating) : 89
6) Mods (if any) : Pertronix Ignition, flamethrower coil
7) MPG City/Highway: 24/28.

1) Make/Model car: 1965 Mustang Convertible
2) Engine Size : 200, Holley 390cfm 4V
3) Tranny type : 4 cylinder T5
4) Rear End Gear Ratio : 3.20:1
5) Fuel type (octane rating) : 89
6) Mods (if any) : Pertronix Ignition, flamethrower coil, Aussie 250/4V head/intake manifold, headers, enlarged valve.
7) MPG City/Highway: 20/26. I think I lost alot around town as with the power I tend to have more fun around town and it's harder not to push the engine harder.

What method do yall use to measure your MPG? Just wonderin
Matt

fill up the car write down the milage
drive car
fill up again
write down how much gas it took and write down milage again
sub tract first milage from second divide by gallons used.

Say you went 300 miles and used 10 gallons you would divide 300 by 10 giving you 30 mpg.

Tim

Dangit, with a 42 gallon fuel tank capacity, Im only gettin about 10mpg in my daily 93 burb... funny when you cant wait to get your project "hotrod" back on the road cause it has the potential to get better gas mileage than your backup ride, lol
Matt

Hmm. Still getting mine dialed in with the new carb, but here:

1) Make/Model car: 1966 Mustang Coupe
2) Engine Size : 200, Weber 38/38 DGES
3) Tranny type : C4
4) Rear End Gear Ratio : 2.73:1
5) Fuel type (octane rating) : 93
6) Mods (if any) : Clifford 272 cam, dual-header with true dual pipes, Mallory Unilite, Flamethrower II coil, bored .030, milled .060.
7) MPG City/Highway: 21/24

'66 Mustang
rebuilt 200ci
2.77 3spd
3.50:1 8" rear
91 octane
Cliffy dual headers, 2" pipe w/H, Carter YF, Pertronix
225/60/15 tires ( sticky sticky sticky!)

City/Highway.... both 15mpg uncorrected! So probably closer to 12!!!

I really need to get a post '68 dizzy... I think the stock '66 dizzy is part of what is killing me. Then a Holley 5200... hopefully I'll have something respectable for mileage.

67 mustang
C-4 trans
2.83 rear
203 cubic inches
right now I have the 350 cfm holley on for better miliage & while I get the 500 with annular discharge nozzles dialed in.
city about 14-15,highway 22-23 engine mods listed below. With the 500 carb 12 city 18 highway. William

1969 Mustang convertible
250 cu.in.
Weber 38
Dual headers & exhaust
Pertronix in stock distributor with MSD 6
T-5 transmission

20-21 around town
24-25 highway at 65-70

1.) 66 Falcon Fordor
2.) 200ci rebuilt about 45K ago, not sure if correct gasket used. Bored 30 over.
3.) C-4 trans, rebuilt by me a few K miles ago
4.) 2.83 Rear end
5.) 89 octane
6.) Single outlet headers. MSD Blaster II Coil. Cruise Control. Had a Pertronix II but I removed it. 195/75/R14 tires
7.) Highway - with or without the Pertronix about 18 mpg cruising at 80.

I think its pretty important that people list their highway cruising speed and terrain. I would expect a lot different mileage driving 65 in the flatness of Illinois than going 80 in the Tennessee hills.

1966 Fastback Mustang
200 ci about 110,000 miles
1968 distributor w/ Pertronix that I recurved
MSD box
32/36 Weber, Cifford Adaptor
Clifford port divider
Poor boy stepped exhaust 1 78" to 2 1/4" to 1 7/8". (I upgraded the pipe to the muffler and since the muffler was OK at this time I did not replace it)
T-5 Tranny (4cyl model)
3.2 rear axle
195 75 R 14 tires
recalibrated speedometer gear

18 to 20 mpg mixed driving.
Now where did I put that 100 mpg carb?
Doug

I am very anal about keeping car records. I record mileage everytime I fill up the gas, change the oil, add oil, or do any work on the car. I verify my odometer via a designated measured mile on our highway and occasionally with a GPS.

Stock standard XY GS with 2V 250 4 speed toploader. Diff ratio unknown.
17 MPG city. 21 MPG country. Rembering imperial gallons are slightly more than US. I am running electronic ignition and pacemaker headers..

Interesting I read an article today on the 302 windsor with the same 2V carburettor toploader combination in an XY GS on a test done in 1971 and it also got 21 MPG with two adults and two children in it. I suspect the V8 may have run a taller diff.

'61 4dr Deluxe wagon, 144 cu.in.,original 3 o' the tree,3.50:1 open, cheep gas, BR60-13 Goodyears on aluminum slots, Acell 7mm Yellow plug wires, everything else stock, not even a chrome exhaust tip......
Around town:18-21, Highway:26-32 depending on terrain & speed.
This makes it hard to justify throwing the built 204 in it...
Darryl

1964 falcon wagon,170ci 1bbl,2 speed auto (yuk..still), 195R15 in. wheels, yup they are 15in 4 bolt wheels stamped FoMoCo,any ideas where they came from? rebuilt 1100, stock ignition and i'm getting 22-23 mpg at 60mph

I just read through all the post for this thread and i soooooo wish i could get as good of mileage in my car you some of you guys. haha my car is

65 mustang 200ci bone stock (for now) (nothing rebuilt yet either)

I will be adding a T5, holley 2300 350 cfm and DUI soon (actually in the next month or so)

We shall see then!

I know this has been said before but--your driving style has as much to do with gas mileage as your engine.

how many litres in a US gallon?
1 US gallon is one Holden GM 3800.

The US convention makes 1 US gallon equal to 231 cubic inches or 3.785 Liters
The Pommy Convention makes 1 Imperial gallon out at 277 cubes or 4.546 litres.

Funny thing is, there are some real weird things with US gallons. Creepy things. The 144 is 5/8 th of a US gallon, the 260 1 1/8 th and the 289 1 1/4 ths. But the Holden 202 is exactly 7/8ths of a US gallon. Is this just a co-incidence?

Hmmm.
