What "sparker"? ( need recommendation)

I have an Inline six (170 - I think) in a 1964 Correct Craft boat. Im trying to figure out what spark plug to use in it. The motor is actually a 63 vintage.

I think it currently has "46s" in it. I dont have a book that goes back that far,but I see a lot of BF-82 plugs spec'd in the mid-sixtys manuals.

What is the difference between the 46 and 82 spark plugs?

Any recommendations as to which plug/ or other # to use?

The Autolite 82 are speced for the later electronic ignition. They are designed for a gap of .050" and use a harder material for the electrode. They are about the same heat range as the earlier version Autolite 45 or 46.

Your question should be, What does your engine tell you it needs? What is in there now? If your plugs are black and sooty they are likely too cold and you'd run cleaner with a colder plug or a leaner air/fuel mixture.

Spark plug heat range depends on your engines condition, your environment, altitude and your frequency of maintainance.

Personally I like a Champion RF 14YC. It is on the cold side for summer use and gapped at .050". But I typically buy what ever is on sale and put in new plugs about every year.
