What to look for?

I was wondering if anyone could recomend what would be a good year 200 to look for to go in my '63 Falcon Futura. I am hoping in the future to pull the 170 and FordOMatic, and replace them with a 200 and C4.

Also, can anyone recomend some place in the LA area that I would be able to find a 200 at a really good price.

Thank you in advance.

I'd say an engine from after 78. I think just about all 200 engine blocks are created equel (except for the posibily of an early 4 main bearing block). A head dated after 78 has larger intake valves.

Actually, any good running post '64 200 would be a good candidate. The only thing the post '78 200 had over the earlier versions was larger intake valves, larger intake "log" volume, hardened exhaust valve seats, 1/4" larger manifold carb opening, and DuraSpark II electronic ignition (an easy upgrade for post 64 blocks). Get a copy of the Schjeldahl's book for all the down and dirty on these sixes: http://falconperformance.sundog.net/.

You will see a marked increase in performance with an early or late 200/C4 when compared to your 170. 8)
