?? whats the best year for the 200 cu in

I'd like to start collecting parts to build a 200/t-5 combo for my 61 wagon.What would be the best year to try and find? or are they all good :O) Thanks

Any 7 main 200 will do. The later the block year, the more chance it has not been punched out already. Get yourself a mid to late 70's 250 head.

Damn nice wagon and a 2 door no less. Is that original?

thanks for the info, my wagon is bone stock but has been repainted. It was black and white when it was new.

Checked out your photos. I love it! The shot of the cockpit takes me straight back to high school and the driver's ed simulator, or as we called it, the 'stimulator'. There were a bunch of pods in a windowless trailer. All 12 of them looked like Kubota tractors with a Falcon steering wheel, shift lever, dashboard and pedal set. There was absolutely no mechanical feedback in the steering or pedals, but when you floored it the speedo motor would start to whine and slowly creep up over the stated limit. Then one of the instructors would holler "get off the pedal, leadfoot!"
Man are you lucky. Get out the steam wand for the engine bay and have a ball.
The Falcon was rated #1 by Consumer Reports the year it came out. Their article had the title "Detroit finally gets it right." No frills, totally practical and economical into the bargain. I know this because my engineer father-in-law had the Consumer Reports annuals back to 1958 and I checked out the reviews.
I would love to get a clean wagon like this, then spiff up the interior to taste.

I'd opt for a '68 to '78 200.

The reason being that these blocks are drilled for both bell housing sizes; while '64 to '67 200's are only drilled for the small styled bells...

Not all 64 - 67 blocks are only drilled for the small bellhousing. Note the differences in the photo below, C3OE 4-main 200 on the right and a C6DE 200 on the left with the dual bellhousing pattern. The C6DE 200 in my Futura also has the dual pattern.

While it may not be universally true (nothing was with Ford in the 60s) for 64 - 67 blocks, at least some have the dual pattern. I'm for the later year blocks too, but primarily for Kukm66's recommendation, less likely to have been rebuilt more than once.

Do you have a 65 block with a dual pattern? I have seen conflicting posts on this year regarding whether or not it was a dual pattern. I had thought that 66 was the first year.

Also, have you seen or have pics of the rear of a late model 170 that went to the big bell pattern? Again, conflicting info on the first year of that change, somewhere around 1980.

No on both counts. Both of my 66 blocks have the dual pattern, and I have no 65 blocks.

Love the pics of the wagon! Long time since I've seen an air cleaner with a span key, a double action fuel pump and a downdraft breather! Love to have one like it.

i love this wagon it runs like a top took it on a 40 mile ride today. It's a little rusty around the bottom but thats okay. It has 47 k original miles on it :O)
