so where can i find one of these aussie motors, i am very interested in one, for a conversion idea i have, also what type of manual tranmission would be best for it, (racing application) i know that an automatic tranny would be more consistent, but i want some fun also.

thanks alot,

mooney

I've focused on the third generation EFI Multipoint or Central Fuel Injected OHC sixes, not the cross-flow OHV's (1976-1991), or eariler 2V's (1970-72). The best propects are the later 1993-2002 engines with T5 Non-World Class 5-speeds. Power ratings from 186 to 231 hp are common with the 4.0 OHC sixes, and over 255 lb-ft to 274 lb-ft.

Just one example of a six cylinder parts supply in Perth  http://onedex.com/falcon/

There are two sourcing options to consider.

1. Australia. This is the best place to get them. Check with JD as your first prospect. On a yearly basis, about 50-60,000 six cylinder Falcons were made with SOHC 3.2/3.9/4.0 liter engines. That's over 800,000 engines to choose from. The Australians can export just as well as the Kiwis, but even though the Outback and Taxi environment is rougher than the New Zealand enviroment, there are less sea ports to chose from, and the spread of options is so much greater.

2. In New Zealand, Australian cars were imported and /or assembled since the early sixties. Each year around 4,000 units were sold, so there are, from 1988 to 2003, 60,000 SOHC I6 Falcon engines to choose from in 3.2, 3.9 and 4.0 liter form. Kiwi cars are junked at a far greater rate than Aussie cars because of much stricter anual and bi-anual inspections...and the ready supply of Japanese imports, which are much more valued than old intermediates like Falcon sixes.

A supply of these engines could be made on a "backload" basis form American engine importers in New Zealand. These guys are typical cocky Kiwis, who want to import US V8's, and they find it crazy that any American would want to import Falcon sixes. I know. I've approached a large number, and they laugh. But since NZ is, as they say, the A$$ Hole of the Southern Pacific, Kiwis love to create export markets. There are a few guys which I am aquainted who do regular trips to the states to pick up V8's from the 'States, so bringing some I6's with them would not be a problem.

There may be other people willing to help!

I'm also interested in finding an aussie six. I'm reletively new to engine work although I have experienced friends willing to help. They all want to put an eight in my 66 200 w/C-4 but I like what was done in the XFlow Chronicles.

XECUTE - I didn't realize there were so many to choose from. Now I'm really confused! I just wanted to use the XFlow Chronicles as a foundation for my rebuild project. I wonder if I should stick with that since this is basically my first or keep researching.
