I would like to make a spacer for my two barrel adapter out of phenolic material, but where can I get a blank piece 3/4"-1" thick? How hard is it to work with, similar to wood or plastic or.... ?

If you're looking for a "blank" piece to drill as you wish, why not use wood, I believe it has better insulation properties than phenolic material.
Maybe Addo can help out with the type of wood to look for.

I have seen a lot of carb spacers made of high grade plywood and sealed with epoxy.

Phenolic material can be found on ebay sometimes.
You might even get it from industrial supply places like McMaster-Carr or Grainger.

Also get in touch with a carpenter that does installs of countertops. They use a very similar material and often have scrap pieces left over.

When they lay doen a sink, they cut out the round part for the sink, that's how much they got laying about. Silestone is something you could use.

True phenolic spacer material is expensive as it is epoxy impregnated layers of wood.

I fabbed a very thick gasket from an old not often used asbestos gasket material and it has been working great beneath my carb. Real thick stuff, about 3/16" or so. Just be careful of the dust.

Good luck,

Your profile does not say where you are from but I bought several round 1/4 inch X4 inch blanks from a local plastics supply house and epoxied them together- I think I paid about $5.00 each. Look in the phone book under plastic.

A while back you could buy an "heat insulation" kit for Holley carbs that was just a "wedding cake" stack of aluminum plates and gaskets. You could duplicate the same thing. Each aluminum plate was maybe .063" thick?

I added my location. I have thought about using wood. An Oak board or Oak plywood comes to mind. I thought about the phenolic material because I have seen manufactured ones that taper to match the manifold or carb for mismatched combos. I am making my own funnel adapter and thought it would work well. I made a base out of 3/8 aluminum.

Be careful if it is too compliant you will break the ears off your carb. There is nothing worse than a carb that can't hear anymore

I have some linen based phenolic material. It won't insulate as good as wood but it is harder. 1/4" and 1" I could donate a small piece.
