which 200cid from 65-69 is the best to rebuild[/b]

I currently have my car stripped down to the frame, dash, wireing and tires are still onit. I am upgrading a 170cid from my 63 Comet S-22 conv to a later 200cid. My question is which 200cid is a better engine to put in my car? I would like to upgrade the carb to a 2barrel, put on dual exhaust as well as upgrade some other things to increase HP and torque. I need to know for sure it is the same size and can bolt up without any mods. I have a Dagenham 4-speed manual. From what I gather the 65 200cid has 120 @ 4000 hp and 190 @ 2400 of torque, Comp 9.2:1 and the later 69 had 115 @ 3800 hp and 190 @ 2200 torque and comp of 8.8:1. Which one has more power?

I am also looking for both front fenders and hood for a 1960 falcon.

Thanks,
Joe

I would go later, but not for the engine. They are all basically the same, just some early 200s only had 4 main bearings IIRC, so avoid those. THe only reason I would go 66+ is actually because of the bellhousing designs. The 65 and earlier blocks had a bellhousing pattern that only would take the smaller bellhousing, thus limiting you to a 8.5" recessed flywheel (for manuals) with no real performance options. The later blocks have a dual pattern accepting both early and later 200 bellhousings. The later bellhousing is easier to find T5 adaptors for.

Performance wise, it's probably more important to find a good, later 69 250 head.

BTW,

throw all those HP numbers out the window. Those were "ideal" gross HP estimates. after 1969 (I think that was the year) cars were listed with "Net HP" or commonly termed flywheel HP. Current cars use this. that 120HP that ford said the 200 had was more like 90 flywheel, and 70 RWHP (rear wheel horse power). With things like the AUssie 250/2v Head, Offenhauser intake manifold, etc, you can easily get 120-140RWHP. Just for comparison purpose, 141 RWHP is what a stock 65 289 A code puts out, 120 RWHP is a 289 2V C code. K code GT's put out 170RWHP.
