I have a question concerning what header to get for my 65 Mustang. I have the 200 six and want to build a ground pounder from this platform. I was wondering if anyone had any information or experience concerning the Pace setter from ford six perf. and the header offered by Clifford Performance. The price is about the same so that to me is not a concern. I want a header that has the least clearence issues and the most performance. I am considering using a header for duals and routing the system through a GT rear apron. What mufflers should be used in a dual set up with an X pipe that wont drone too much. Any thoughts on this.

Get the Pacesetter. I like Dynomax mufflers or Magnaflows, with the Dynomax being a little quieter. To be fair, Flowmasters don't drone nearly as much with an X-pipe.

It's actually Pacemaker brand. Pacesetter is a different company.

Anyway, they are decently built and last nicely. You need to be aware that a header alone, will not do much for performance. There are other restrictions in the system that limit power a little more - until addressed.

Regards, Adam.

thanks for the info, I plan on getting Cliffords rebuild kit, which includes dual timing chain, pistons, bearings, cam etc... along with their performance head. I am wanting to run a weber also. What type of distributor should I be looking for. My current engine (65 Mustang) is bone stock with just over a 100K miles but she is smoking (no lead gas) so I plan on going through the motor. thanks again

The DUI from Classic Inlines (Ford Six) is the best solution. Pricey, though. However the other option, DuraSpark 2, is about the same if purchased new and not from a junkyard.

I'd really wait for the Classic Inline head before I made a purchase. No matter what Clifford does to their head, there is no way that it would flow even 3/4 of the new one. It's just not possible. The price should be similar, so choose accordingly.

sounds good, any idea when this head will be out??
thanks again.

The very top thread has all of the info that is out. Short answer: When it's done. But soon, within the next couple of months. The first 10 or so are being driven around now for testing purposes (lucky SOBs). Mike (AzCoupe here on the forum) wants all the kinks and potential problems worked out before they go on sale.

does the top thread have any idea how many clams I'll be digging to have this baby under my hood?? oh and I like your picture of the troops with the sign, I did 20 years in the corps and I'll tell you I have worked with some of the best this country has to offer thanks again.

He's trying to keep it around $1500, +/- a couple hundred. It all depends on how many are bought, really. Economics of scale and all that. If a lot are sold, the price will be lower.

Thanks for your service as well, I was medically discharged last week, and that picture sums up my thoughts on John Kerry. 8)

:D Hi Wallaka, sums up my thoughts on Kerry too. Thanks to ALL of the current and former service men and women of the US armed forces.

+1 to what woodbutcher said.

I'm not a very big GWB fan, but you have to have respect and appreciation for those willing to risk and serve.
Hat's off to you!

Mike.

hey Wallaka, you mentioned Dynomax, or magnaflows and then the flowmasters, which model or part #s are you referring to? I know that there is not a whole lot of ground clearence under the 65 Mustang. I am currently running the stock exhaust with a Flowmaster that is tucked under and behind the rearend. This set up is just anoying as %$#@&, especially under hard ecceleration. With the duals coming off of the Pacemaker will I be able to position the mufflers side by side or is a staggered method work better?

For Flowmasters, go for the 50 series or bigger if it's too loud. I like mufflers like these, it acts like an x-pipe inside of the muffler, plus has dual in and out. You could also use two of the bullet-type mufflers, one on each pipe. You should be able to put the mufflers side by side. I see no reason why not. On mine there is plenty of room underneath for mufflers, it's not that low to the ground even lowered a couple of inches. Magnaflows are more of a glasspack type, so I'd run a resonator with them if you don't like the noise so much.

Thanks Wallaka, for the info on the mufflers, just for clarification and not meaning to beat this to death but on the flowmasters it would be one muffler with a dual in and out and I would not have to add the X pipe??and then the magnaflows are a glass pack one on each pipe and I'm not familiar with the resonator, thanks again.

The resonator is a small glasspack muffler that fits before the main muffler. It filters out frequencies that the larger muffler can't.

Well, it could go either before or after. Doesn't matter a whole lot, they are easy to fit under the car because they have a small diamater.
