HI ALL
I have a chance to pick up an 83 Fairmont for $200.oo (the whole car)They don't know what motor it is and I can't find any markings on it...
I did noticed that the starter is mounted down across from the oil pan but it does have an automatic and on my 170 and the 200 I have its mounted above it but they are 3spd. sticks. So is this a 250 or is the starter location normal for an automatic.
The guy at the lot says it runs but someone has removed the plug wires from the cap, the air cleaner has been messed with, theirs no battery or + cable to the sylinoid and so I couldn't start it.
I know the 200 is an esay swap for my 170 but if its a 250 well my fly wheel and bell housing form the 170 or 200 fit it?? and what else will I need for the swap form a 170 to the 250??
Thanks
Tim

According to some documention I have, the 250 was not in the Fairmont in '83, so that would make it an emissions-loaded BB-200.

Al is right. You have a Big Bell 200. Ford axed the 250 in 1980.

HI
I just read the artical on the Big Bells. It says something about them changing the casting to adapt the big bells so I'm thinking that the small bell like off my 170 or the older 200 isn't going to fit
Am I right??
