Here is a setup I have in mind for my stang:

250 2V Head
Dual out headers w/ port divider
Duraspark 2
full roller rockers
holley 350 carb
fordsixparts oil pan
electric fan

I know alot of you guys have done similar setups with 200s, but my question is why not use a 250 block for the above setup? I mean it is an easy way to increase displacement by 25% thus increasing HP over the same setup on a 200 block. Why don't more guys do this?

I was just wondering.... Since I plan on building up a high performance engine over the winter and want a daily driver with as much kick as possible. Of course none of this matters if Jack gets the 200 crossflow thing worked out......because that would be the way to go!!!

several reasons. A 250 will not rev like a 200 because of the longer stroke.. I believe it will run out of breath faster than a 200. And in a falcon and probably in a mustang too, the hood clearence can a problem.

BUT it does have the 25% more horses.. Many people have done the 250 swap and like to performance. I was going with a 250 when i started and the idea in not completely gone..

I think you'd be suprised how many 250 swaps that are out there.

The 250 is longer, wider and taller than the 200 and can be a real tight fit under the hood of the 64-68 cars. Also, none of the 200 drivetrain (flywheel, bell, etc) cross between the 200 and 250.

Here's a link to some swap info

8) my falcon gets a 250 when i get the time. i bought the motor about a month and a half ago.

The only reason I havent gone to a Oz 221 or 250 is because I would have to fabricate a rear sump oilpan, pickup, motor mounts, etc.

But there are guys who have swapped in 250's in Foxes but not very many becasue of the fabrication necessary.

As the old say ing goes "There is no replacement for cubic displacement"

:D Yes, the idea of a few more cubes appeals, doesn't it?

Well, the Oz/Argentinian 221s Mark mentioned are the other option, but they're not all plain sailing, nor exactly easy to find now. They are only ½" or so taller than the 200, and about the same length.

LEROYPOL has two on the way (he should be prying the crate open about 12-13 days time); maybe someone will measure and photograph his toys for general edification of our viewers.

Bellhousings aren't the same as the 200, and you have to use a number of specific parts.

Note that the Oz 250 is an easier fit, too than the US 250...

Adam.
